Just got back from my ecology class's field trip to the Yaquina Bay tide pools. Oh my God, they are so gorgeous. I guess I've never been to see real, natural tide pools before, but oh, maaaaan, they are so, so, so beautiful. Creatures (and plants) seen: mussels, clams, crabs, hermit crabs, shrimp, sea stars, sun stars, an octupus (in the WILD, ( Read more... )

I miss the ocean. I used to play by the tidepools when I was little... aww, they're so purty, especially the urchin and the starfish. There's a place in my town where you can go to the wharf and see hundreds of them that size, though not always as colourful.

Coolness! Alas... Portland has no tidepools (which is... duh, lol). *tear* I will have to go again, sometime when I can devote the whole day to it. :-D

HOLY CRAP THE OCEAN IS PRETTY.

Your photos came out beautifully, too. I'm very impressed, the colours are gorgeous.

Yes it is!!! *WANTS*

Thank you! Well, I did have to lighten some of them up in Photoshop, and screw around with the levels a bit, but it wasn't much for them to be all shiny. :-D

Oh wow, you've never seen tide pools before? Some of my favorite memories are in Bandon, where my mom, sister, and I would walk along the beach in the morning and see the newly formed tide pools. I couldn't really name a whole lot of what I saw, but I always enjoyed seeing the creature that clung to the rocks with the dark outside, and kind of green center (I see a couple of them in your pictures).

Yeah -- the beaches my family always went to when I was a kid were sandy ones so that we could go swimming and stuff. We just never came to tide pool beaches. But I will campaign for sure for the family to go there this summer....

Sea anenomes are what you're thinking of. :)
