Ben and I had an action-packed weekend. First we went birding. Ben saw his first Western Bluebird (flew up to us in the parking lot as we were leaving!), and it was a good day for raptors, as we saw Cooper's Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk, two nesting Red-shouldered Hawks and a Turkey Vulture.

My apartment building, being in Southern California, has open hallways between apartments. Doing my laundry the other night led me to discover a number of interesting insects clustered around the various lights -- a grasshopper, a praying mantis, a true bug of some kind (they've got a certain shape; other "bugs" are just insects, but these guys ( Read more... )
