"This is unfair," says Nate, attempting to squeeze an orange.

"What's unfair?" asks Jensen. He's putting most of his brain into not burning the bacon or the eggs, but Nate sounds perturbed.

"It's father's day."

"Yup."

"But there isn't a Jensen's day."

Jensen pauses.

"I mean--when are dad and I gonna make you surprise stuff?"

Jensen quickly plates the eggs and bacon and moves over to Nate. "Hey--I don't mind. I thought it'd be fun if we surprised your dad. I'm okay not getting breakfast."

Nate cocks his head. "Cuz we're all gonna eat?"

"Yeah. And because--"

Because he didn't want to impose where he didn't belong, or force himself into their family. Because it was his first Father's Day living with the two of them, and as much as he loved them, he wasn't Nate's dad.

"Because you aren't allowed to use the stove," he says, ruffling Nate's hair.

"I will be someday," Nate says, pouting. "Can I make you and dad surprise breakfast next year
