Today's random thought: if I could vid, and I think it's probably a blessing for the world that I can't vid (I actally can't even watch vids with anything approaching intelligence - I like them when the music is nice and the images are pretty, my IQ drops several hundred points when I click play).... anyway. Yes. I think someone-not-me could make a ( Read more... )

Oh, I know, I know, I know. The last seasons are so very different from the early stuff--Daniel and Sam are not nearly geeky enough, but Cam is a total SG-1 fanboy and Vala is the best thing since coconut rum--and, just, yes, the show had problems and occasionally made me want to shake the people in charge, but it also understood the value of pie. And blue jell-o.

("Serpent's Song" is brilliant in a lot of ways, not least of which is Daniel going quietly darkside and then giving Apophis' host last rites.)

Yeah, that's the sort of fear I have about watching the last couple of seasons - that it won't be right, and I won't look at the rest of it the same way, which would be a shame.

(I KNOW! Seriously. I rewatched it and thought.... whoa, did I just not get this, the first time I saw it? Wow.)

In some ways, it's a different show. Like Doctor Who when the Doctor regenerates--hey, look, shiny new team members, and some new monsters too! I know a lot of people dropped it or didn't like it nearly as much; me, I thought it brought the show a breath of fresh air, and I really enjoyed the new dynamics.

(Yeah, "Serpent's Song" is totally one of my favorite eps. And "Torment of Tantalus" was one of the first ones that made me actually respect the show, though I watched the 1st season all out of order anyway.)

I hated the way they ended the show. The last season really knocked a lot of the shiny off of SG-1 for me. I don't think you'd be missing anything, but then I couldn't stand to not see the end, so I shouldn't talk.

I actually remain resolutely unspoiled for the end, just in case I did ever want to watch it. Er. *dithers*

"Window of Opportunity" may in fact be THE BEST HOUR OF TELEVISION EVER.

And, yes. I was never really fannish about SG-1 because, well... I actually don't know why, but this post reminds me of Kib's and my Stargate Mondays, when we'd sit down after school (middle for her, high for me) and watch reruns. And it was so much fun.

Also. Unrelated. At some point in the next two months, I need to see you. No, but for a real reason! Just a secret one. I mean, it doesn't have to be in the next two months, but it would be most appropriate if it were. *cryptic*

I would not dispute that fact! The bit where Teal'c learns to juggle may be the best MINUTE of television ever. Oh, show.

Hi! I am intrigued! The next two months - well, for the next two weeks I am here, then the month after that I'm in the UK, and then I'm back mid-Jan. I shall email.

I vaguely watched the first seasons of SGA around about the time s3 was airing because I had so many friends into it, and then didn't get around to watching the entirety of SG-1 (and also rewatching SGA and catching the seasons I'd not watched) until a year or two back. In continuity terms it's probably worth sitting through the whole thing at least once, but now I've got the vague urge to go back and just hit the episodes I actually liked. (I did not like s9 and s10 of SG-1, but that's down to a combo of A) O'Neill being largely missing and B) not being fond of Ben Browder's characters. I figured out after my grand SG-1 marathon why I couldn't ever get into Farscape.)

That's what I'm doing, too. I mean, for me watching SG-1 is never exactly a chore, but I know the story too well and am just watching for my favourite parts. I suspect I may never watch much of SGA, though; I think at heart I'm watching the Jack, Daniel, Sam and Teal'c Banter And Are Adorable Show, rather than what the producers would've had me believe. :P

1) Do you have a song in mind for said Daniel vid? Because that is a BRILLIANT idea and I'm only just learning how to vid (and thus, not as good as some people) but that sounds awesome ( ... )

1) No, I don't! Er, songs. Let me see. I thought initially "Unwell" by Matchbox Twenty, or "Ill" by the Indelicates - but they're both too bouncy! Er, "Fifty Fifty Chance", by Suzanne Vega is quite interesting but might not be quite right. I'm still thinking.

Although, seriously, I would learn to vid if it meant I could help make that vid! For some reason it's arrived in my head fully-formed: you'd use that bit from "Need", as well, and maybe make one of its end clips that bit where ascended!Daniel takes out Anubis, and blur it out into the white room.

2)) SAM. I love her! I love her so much. Thank you for telling me that - because, you know, sometimes I do wonder if being quite so invested in fiction is a good thing, but you know, I'm reminded that it is, loving things that inspire you is so important. And I am totally with you on Sam/Daniel interaction! I love how they play off each other so beautifully. ("Singularity"! that's another one that's great for that ( ... )

1) I pretty much taught myself how to vid because I had a vid idea get lodged in my brain. If you have a Mac, I'd be happy to help you with (the little bit of) what I've figured out. Alternately, if you want, I'd be happy to work with you to try to make the vid in your head (bearing in mind that my skills are rudimentary and we both have busy schedules). Mostly cause it sounds awesome (you could also potentially steal a few clips from other shows the actor(s) did ( ... )

Argh! I didn't realize that was now a no-go. GRAR, SCHEDULING.
