So I actually haven't seen the movie or the show, but I'm just putting in my two cents. Paramount may be trying to set Shyamalan up as a scapegoat in some ways, because naturally the people in charge need to point the finger of blame at somebody, compulsively. But part of why he so easily became said scapegoat is because people, at least here, have been waiting for him to fail utterly. I don't even mean like some kind of exercise in mediocrity like some of his movies are, but I mean I have a theory that his movies become logarithmically worse as time goes on. In this case, he's the scapegoat because frankly, this guy having produced so many astoundingly not-worth-seeing movies, is probably in large part responsible for the apparent shittiness of the movie. I mean I won't say I think there was no studio involvement; if you're not producing a movie independently, there has to be. This isn't just Paramount selecting a fall guy. This is the entire country finally realizing that apparently, you can produce one mind-blowingly great
( ... )
He certainly makes a good fall guy, I won't deny that. I am pretty sure I have not missed much by avoiding most of his movies.
I'm just also saying that even if this spells the end of his career, getting rid of him won't be the fairytale end to racism in Hollywood. It won't even be the end to racism within Paramount, they just might be a little bit more careful next time.
I am a little depressed it still managed to hit #2 - I wish people would just leave it well enough alone, even if they are morbidly curious about how bad it could be. But I can't really fault them for that.
That is an amazing photo. I kinda want to step through my monitor and walk around in it. ... As to Avatar, it sounds a bit like 300. Even if you ignored the whole weirdly-racist-pro-fascism-hating-on-Congress-for-some-reason stuff (which people said you had to do because it was just an action movie - have people been playing that card with Avatar? Just a kids' movie?), it just wasn't very good.
I haven't seen 300 (but I expect it is much the same idea - badly done, with terrible messages to boot).
I think the defence of "it's just a movie/ cartoon/ book/ tv show/ part of pop culture, so therefore you should stop taking it so seriously" does get brought up a lot, for many different things. So I'm sure it'd have been brought up for Avatar by now. Doesn't really make it better, random person on the internet, just means even in my relaxation time I get confronted with this stuff.
That's a gorgeous photo of my favourite part of the NHM, I also love the view from the stairs up to where you took the picture with the great slice of the redwood tree.
Because I think of you every time I see something werewolf-related
That is the best thing ever. :)
But I'm not entirely convinced about those dolls (or the site - my computer grumbled at me when I was trying to load it so I didn't get to look around much). They really do look like they've been built along the Bratz prototype. My personal toy preference would be something like this:
But maybe along Ginger Snap lines, so a female werewolf with a white streak in the hair, a giant trenchcoat, early 90s belly shirt, a choker and big damn boots.
