Bye bye (my) American Dream!

Sep 23, 2009 23:17

In the last couple of weeks I've been itching to book a holiday for February/March (as bobalone knows, since we discussed it at length over dinner).
Despite the winter being rather mild in London, what we miss here is the light and the sun.
Winter with its very short days can be a depressing affair, and I find it helps to have something to look forward to.

holiday, u.s.

Sorry to hear you had a hard time on your last visit. I must have missed somewhere this difficulty - did you post about it previously?

PS and Arizona in winter can be nice, as well as South Florida. OR relatively mild Texas...

2 weeks of Australian sunshine would do you the WORLD of good! But I'm biased, of course!!! :-)

I am sure they aren't too cordial.

I had the great misfortune to have to fly out of Boston Logan Airport two weeks after 9/11. Epic and patience testing - I didn't fly again until 2007 (union training and such always is farther away).

It seems improved but I am also physically (but not mentally) a native.

but you have some great locations that are just a train trip away. Their gain is our loss!

I bet that security was very tight then!

I'll probably 'get over it' and visit the US again some time!

The rule for "family" at US immigration has always been "same name, same address" and it's one of the (minor) reasons I changed name when Steve and I got married - so that we can pass through immigration together as a family anywhere we travel. Generally we don't have a problem although there has been the occasional raised eyebrow.

I didn't know you changed name!

Well the custom form (which is the one that got me in trouble last time) just says "family".
I'm sure that a straight couple (married or not - a wife can keep her maiden name) wouldn't receive the same treatment.

You might be right, on the other hand it may have just been the agent having a bad day. People in power having a bad day tend to spread it around a bit :-)
