The island syndrome

It's all doom and gloom here in London: Adrian (london1952) will be out of work at the end of the month and British Telecom has announced even more redundancies (totalling 10,000).

In such a climate, it'd probably be sensible to save money and weather the storm... but no, I need something to cheer us up and what's better than planning a holiday?

The shortlist ( Read more... )

Although Zurich is not an island, you still owe me a kiss. And the call Switzerland an island. (A high priced one ... which I probably shouldn't mention.)

Is Madeira for older people? I didn't know that.

Well it has that sort of reputation here in the UK: a slightly more sedate holiday destination (it isn't Ibiza! LOL!)

Good point about Manhattan! But it wouldn't be that warm in March!

Gran Canaria, if you get past the Playa del Inglés, is affordable and beautiful. The food is awesome! You can also hop to Lanzarote for stunning beaches for a couple of days, hopping between islands is cheap

Good, you know that I'm biased

One minor annoying note. When I was in Playa del Inglés we were overlooked by a few bar owners because we were spaniards. It's mostly for English and Germans. However, when there was a spaniard at the bar, the story reversed, so we managed to make a couple of friends and have a very enjoyable time
