I received two letters today: one from David Cameron (the leader of the Conservative Party) urging me to vote for Boris Johnson for Mayor of London, and the other one from Silvio Berlusconi asking for my vote at next month's Italian elections ( Read more... )

We don't get to vote for the weather.

This is true...this is only a SoCal voting luxury. :P

Mr. Berlusconi used the familiar "tu" pronoun: how very dare he!)

Same as in Spanish? Where informal friend to friend not as in respectful?

It is the same as in Spanish with "tu" and "usted".
And he started the letter with a "dear friend": tut tut! LOL!

and I had my italian lessons today and my head is buzzing with "I VERBI RIFLESSIVI".

There's been a trend in Italy to use the more informal "tu" in the last few years, in situations when the "lei" would be the norm... I simply had to leave the country! LOL!

And I cannot believe that he is likely to get re-elected.
