I am enjoying this story so much. I like the fact that this points out that canon Harry was pretty much trained to be defensive because of his childhood. I like when fics point out the body language and manners that accompany a poor childhood. I like that Snape seems to have an inkling of that this chapter (he of all people should be able to recognize, especially as objectively as he is watching Harry).
It also seems like a little nod to canon!Dumbledore in placing Harry in such a situation where he would be prepared to fight and sacrifice himself. It's something that maybe brought the AU!Harry to his breaking point. I wonder if Harry won't resent more and more of AU!Harry for having a better life than he did and basically throwing it away (and with so much unfinished business).
Thank you! I think I picked up the idea of defensive behaviors because of the childhood from a mixture of canon and fanon; I always wondered what it was that made Harry so talented at Defense, if it really was an innate thing like his talent for Quidditch or came from somewhere else.
This particular Snape doesn't think much about his childhood anymore, or he might be able to recognize more of the signs.
At the moment, Harry is too busy to be resentful of someone who's dead. That might change as the story goes on.
