Ion stared blankly at the melting glob in the cup placed before him, a minuscule droplet of calm silence in a rising tide of buzzing voices drowning in his ears and saturating his brain, each particularly loud voice cutting through his own thoughts with a sharp stab until he couldn't tell his own voice from any of the others.

"Like a child," Ion murmured to the melting puddle, "dependent on me just as he was when he was six cents to a dollar for tax I thought it was they must've raised the price again on how many calories this has to have in it my God I'm going to get so fat but I had a salad at lunch to balance it out so it'll be just like in the movie, when he finally tells her that he--"

Ion blinked slowly and lifted his gaze to his cousin's face with a hazy stare.

"...what?"

Ion looks awful. I wonder if he has been up to no good again. "I suppose that is something," Ivan commented idly, though not exactly what I wanted to hear. "But you are being so quiet, and when you do talk, all you do is mumble into your ice cream... which you haven't touched yet." I think I preferred spending time at the restaurant with Americanized-Francis than the time I'm spending here.

I wonder what Alfred is doing right now? "Ion, tell me what is on your mind." As much as I would love to give you a free therapy session...

"I haven't been doing anything," Ion snapped irritably, stabbing at his ice cream with a plastic spoon. "If you wanted to play with Francis and that boy from your game, you should've done so. And you shouldn't offer to do things for free."

He set the spoon down and rubbed at his forehead angrily, trying to soothe away the rhythm of voices pounding behind it angrily.

How did he- "Wherever did you get those ideas? Francis is being an irritable drama-queen, and the last person I would consider spending a minute of my time with is that blubbering idiot of an American." I especially don't want to spend any time with him after all those miserable past moments with him. Ivan unconsciously touched two fingers to his lips, then made it look like he was rubbing off a drip of ice cream in the corner of his mouth.

I just wish things would go back to the days where he couldn't actually touch me. Where he was just a voice in my ear.
