"Nej!" he called from within the depths of the kitchen, accompanied by the sound of entertained laughter. For all that Valdi had been through the last few days with stress, tire, rinse and repeat, Kai felt it was the very least he could do to prepare a home cooked meal for his boyfriend in hopes it would revitalize some of the energy he had lost. Not to mention it was a special treat, he thought. He had done plenty of baking for the other as surprise gifts, special somethings to elude to the fact that he had feelings for him, every day run of the mill Danish invasions as an excuse to see him. Cooking was entirely left field for them, and he hoped he could at least make something that Valdi would like

His eyes widened considerably when the dish was placed down in front of him;
"Wow. You're amazing. That looks really good." Just the smell of the meatballs had him waking up, and the thought of eating conquered the desire to sleep.

He shifted into an upright position in front of the food, watching as Kai made a motion back towards the kitchen. "I think there's Cola in the fridge, if not water is fine."

With the appearance of food, the dreaded Puffin hopped out of Valdi's room and effortlessly glided across the room to land beside the Icelander. Valdi gave him a gentle nudge away, aware of Kai's caution towards the bird.

As soon as the glasses were down and Kai was sitting oddly awake beside him, Valdi wrapped his arms around him and pressed a kiss to his cheek.
"Thank you."

Kai started back to the kitchen with a nod to Valdi's request. "I'll see if I can find the so--"

He abruptly turned as the flutter of wings caught his attention like a bear in a snare, a wide eyed stare leveled on the exotic bird that for all intents and purposes was truly harmless. It wasn't that he hated birds, animals, or anything like that -- quite the contrary. He thought it was the coolest fucking thing ever that Valdi had managed to not only get a puffin, but train and housebreak the thing as well. It was just his own inability to handle anything outdoors that kept him at an arm's length (for Christ's sake: his first trip to the zoo in his entire life had been when they all went as a group in November

"He'll have to stay," Valdi managed a laugh, leaning away from Kai for a moment to ruffle his bird's feathers. "I am pretty sure he thinks he owns the place now."

He'd never told Kai about that one weekend, and hoped he would never have to. A telling part of his conscience whispered that Kai had probably dealt with quite a few fantasy weekends himself, but Valdi quickly silenced it
