Lie had somehow manifested into truth.

Or rather, the migraine she had made up in order to avoid office hours had slowly given itself a physical form and Veronika found herself unable to alleviate the pain with the painkillers she had on hand. Thus, she had slept, choosing to perhaps not go out tonight and instead go out of town for the weekend. Surely Dewi could find something or someone else to do while she was away

He suddenly felt as if a spotlight had landed on him the instant she opened that door. His fingers went partially numb under her scrutinizing, tired gaze, and he nearly dropped the flowers and chocolate before he could present them to her. "I just... I..." he cleared his throat, righted his bow tie with a very rose-occupied hand (nearly dropping them), "U heard that you weren't feeling well, and I.... you haven't been at work all week and I was worried so I thought you were sick - you look beautiful by the way - aaaaand I thought that you would... like a little cheer up. Roses and flowers - I skipped halfway across town, and these are Belgian. They're really good, and..." he hoisted out the flowers. "C-can I come in?"

She stared at him for another moment of seemingly tense silence as the forced smile vanished -- only to be replaced by a smaller, softened and more genuine quirk of her lips. "As you can see, moje láska, I am not sick. Just a bit tired and suffering a slight migraine is all." Carefully taking the roses and chocolates from the flustered man, her grin widened somewhat as she pressed a teasing but chaste kiss against the corner of his mouth. "But I appreciate the concern, miláčku."

Taking a step back, Veronika tilted her head toward the inside of her home, dark hair falling loosely over her shoulders from her lack of attempt to tie back the long strands before her nap. "And yes, darling. You can come in. While it is getting warmer, it is still a bit cool out so I would not want you to get ill. I'm sure some of my students would appreciate an extended break from me but I'm sure yours would be devastated, love~"

He forced a laugh at that, quietly wondering when was the last time he had subjected himself to a proper break from his work. "I cannot imagine why. Your lectures always seem to be so interesting - to me, at least-" though he watched her more than listened when he sat in her lectures. His lips were still warm from where hers touched, and somehow he felt lighter when she took the roses and chocolates than before he had even purchased them. "I'm sorry to hear about your migraine... is it stressed-related?"
