Peaking through the peephole, Sindre spied Kai waiting in the hall. Opening the door, he was about to greet the Danish man, but stopped when he took in the whole image.
Kai's hair was deflated, seeming even more lifeless with the purple stripped from it. He was actually dressed well, with lots of black, making him seem even more subdued. The most damning part of the image was the way he held himself. He was slumped, head down, shoulders up as if to try and curl in on himself.
Worried, Sindre ushered him into the apartment. "Is everything all right?" he asked, alarm evident in his voice.

"Sindre?" Was all he could manage out when he finally found his voice, face and expression lifting with a curious sort of hope that inevitably dumbed back down to familiar anticipation. "I.. Please don't kill me when I say this, I really wanted to talk to you before it happened, it all just kinda.. happened, though, so that's why I came here--"
He realized the babbled words didn't make a lick of sense. Kai frowned, and with a large swallow, a deep breath, and a fleeting sigh he forced out in the smallest voice he could.
"... I went on a date with Valdi."

When Kai finally articulated the problem, however, Sindre froze. All worry, all affect, dropped from his face, leaving it completely blank.
"I'm sorry," he said, voice cold. "I believe you misspoke. What did you mean to say?"

Kai actually flinched at the change in tone and shrunk further, putting enough distance between himself in the Norwegian so he'd feel at least at partial comfort should Sindre do something brash (such as pistol whip him). "I-- I know I should have brought it up to you first. I know you don't like me or the things I do, I know you don't think I'm worthy enough for your little brother."
Though this is where the 'but' came in.
"But," Kai started, swallowing down his pride in a brave moment. "I really do like Valdi, and we're good friends. I've taken a lot of steps to mature and be responsible. I'm not smoking or drinking nearly as much. I'm keeping up my grades and working two jobs. I've tried to clean up my act. He sees that; a lot of other people see that. And it just.. it.. it just happened, okay? I didn't plan for it to happen, it just came out. And he was okay with it."
