If a person could be so hungry that he no longer felt hunger, then surely, a person could be so nervous that he no longer felt anxiety. Such was the mentality that Mei possessed when "NEXT" was shouted by the exasperated directors. She hurried up to the stage, as if afraid that she would be kicked out of the audition if she wasn't quick enough.

The floor was slippery from wax and panic sweats of the previous students. The spotlight was hot - too hot on her, and Mei felt like she was going to faint from either nervousness or from the intense heat. But she battled on, swallowed the urge to vomit rushing up her throat, and smiled at her choir director and his secret after-class-teacher-lounge sex buddy.
