Since the attacks on the Vargas mansion, the staff have been a little jumpy. The sound of a plate crashing against the tile floor of the breakfast nook almost caused a maid's throat to be slit open by a recently paranoid butler. But seeing as they were Vargas staff, the butler was able to stop himself in time before the maid retaliated with her own knife to his throat. Even though they had a good laugh about it after they told Roma, it was still a worrisome matter ( ... )

The abrupt appearance of Mister Vargas following just on the cusp of an ominous 'click' that had floated into his peripheral had Raivis, predictably, leaping from the chair he had been perched on, confronting the man with a round open mouth and the overall appearance of a frightened rabbit. Most of what Raivis had said all went over Roma's head as he focused on the male's small, stuttering frame. It made him realize that he missed his assistant ( ... )

Roma hugged him.

Hugged him. There were moments in his life when the breaching of customs he'd known since birth still disturbed him. Sometimes people would call him by his first name when they were only an the level of 'acquaintance'. Sometimes they would embrace him strongly when the situation clearly required something far less informal.

But such an instant, uncomfortable and more than a little unwanted, had not been shared with this man. It never was with Peter or Toris but to feel just as accepting when it was his employer. There should have been metaphorical sirens blaring. 'Not ethical', 'not professional ( ... )
