“Nevermind…”

I look at this word and the first thing that comes to mind is grade school.  Those moments when I would ask a friend if they thought “so-and-so” might “like-like” me and they would get all giddy.  Asking me if I want them to find out, send “so-and-so” a note, ask his friends, and I just giggle and reply, “Nevermind.” Knowing that ( Read more... )

This is very well done. I had forgotten that nevermind once carried a more positive, playful expression to it, but you're right, it was there. Nicely expressive piece.

I have escape words too. It kind of sucks to have to use them. I'm sorry. It will probably never get easier.

I use never mind for the same things. It, along with its sibling, Whatever, is a word that I kind of hate using.

Nevermind and whatever are both words that I tend to hear in my head in saucy teenager inflections. Wasn't there a show back in the early 90s where the kids had a catch phrase of a singsongy "nevermind." But your nevermind in your piece here is something I imagine in a deeper disgusted voice. Diplomacy is rarely fun, even when necessary. I hope you have some friends who have your back that you don't have to "nevermind."

It is so much easier so side-step a conversation with "nevermind" than it is to say what is on your mind, and these were wonderful and (I assume) personal examples. Sometimes situations make it difficult to speak your mind, while other times we have the freedom to do it.
