I don't know this is a good place for this topic, but I want to say it everywhere :) Mario Gomez advises gay footballers to out themselves
( Read more... )
It's true, it is, but it'll still take time. Even if people like Mario and Philipp are fine with homosexual colleagues, there are still people like Ballack's manager and the president of Croatian football.
If more (presumably straight) footballers voice their support of gay players, maybe eventually the supporters will outnumber the haters, and it might carry over into the fan culture.
I think not actually being gay himself (I assume, anyway) he probably doesn't realize exactly how hard it would be for an active player to come out, but more support like this will eventually make it easier. I hope.
In a perfect world, 'coming out' wouldn't even have to be a big ordeal because no one would give a crap. Who you love has nothing to do with how well you can play!
If he were gay, he'd understand the difficulty behind it and not make such silly statements. Or just come out himself.
I think it'd be great if queer footballers could (for example) bring their partners to events and not have to worry about the consequences, just like their straight counterparts. But that's not the society we live in right now. :(
Not much, I'm afraid. I know the awesome people who did this were Werder fans (unsurprisingly, considering the colours), but I don't know when exactly/whose idea it was. I just found the picture on the internet, but without any more information. Sorry.
