I don't know this is a good place for this topic, but I want to say it everywhere :)
Mario Gomez advises gay footballers to out themselves
The German international encouraged homosexual professional colleagues to admit to their inclination. Being gay is no longer an issue.
National player Mario Gomez of Bayern Munich has encouraged gay footballers to come out. “They would play more freely then. Being gay is no longer an issue. We have a gay Vice-Chancellor, the Mayor of Berlin is gay. So professional football players should also admit to their inclination,” the 25-year-old Gomez said in an interview with the magazine ‘Bunte’.
So far the only player that ever outed himself in Germany has been Marcus Urban. The Thuringian was considered a great talent. Until the early 90s, he was signed at second division club Rot-Weiss Erfurt. Then he suddenly ended his career. The key reason for this decision was his homosexuality. Today the 36-year-old plays for ETSV Hamburg, in a team that is part of the gay and lesbian sports club ‘Startschuss’.
For a long time the midfielder had been silent, only talking about the the problems of gay footballers with his immediate environment. With his confession in fall 2007, Urban had wanted to encourage homosexual players and coaches to come out and thus to obtain more acceptance and tolerance in the male society of football.
