Whew!

That last bit was just so - *is speechless*

The scene works perfectly Inara and the Doctor are both completely in character.

Looking forward to more.

With the last part, I was trying to make it ambiguous as to who was saying those words, just to show that Inara can relate with the Doctor more deeply than he realizes. I was also trying to show that Inara was saying these words for the Doctor because he can't bring himself to say them.

I've been working really hard to capture the characters' voices, so I'm glad this scene feels true to them.

So good to read more. I didn't get on my computer Sunday night so couldn't read this until right now. Always left...wanting more!

I hope it wasn't too short. This one and the next chapter are a bit on the short side. Though, I suppose it's a good way to leave people wanting more. ;-)

It does indeed keep us wanting more. Although I may end up having to read them the next day now, since I am getting up about 4 to go to a fitness camp. I need to sleep some :P

Thank you very much. :-D I think that's the fun part about crossovers. The characters from one fandom can give a unique perspective on the fandom of the other characters that normally wouldn't happen.

Ten and Inara squee! I love those two interacting so much. And even though they come from completely different worlds, they would just have SUCH a capacity to "get" each other on an intuitive level.

“But you don’t choose to travel alone. There have been others, but Rose is the first you’ve-” Her words were cut off as the Doctor got up from the jump seat and began to walk around the console. “The life you lead is far from safe but she’s prepared to stay as long as possible. It scares you.”

Like that! I like that Inara totally gets the Rose Thing. Poor, sad Doctor. Ultimately he knows that one day he's going to lose her. And it will hurt like hell. *cries*

I think Inara is able to understand Rose so well because they are in similar situations. Travelling with a man they want to admit their feelings to but can't because said man really isn't up to admitting his feelings either. In Inara's case, she decides to cut ties before it can reach the level of devotion that Rose has for the Doctor. That's the contrast I enjoy between Inara and Rose. Inara is the companion who left while Rose is the companion who stayed. In the end, their roles end up reversed.

Gosh, those two look so great together and I'm not just saying that because I made the icon. ;-) I want more icon space just so I can have more Ten/Inara icons.
