I've been saying for months (or weeks, whatever) now that I've been going to update about fandom, so now I finally am, while I'm thinking about it.

It helped that the fans were (are?) batshit fucking insane, and that the band had begun to evolve into a pile of cultish douche bags. My opinion, anyway. I got out, and I never looked back.
Ugh, yes. I love the band and their music to death, but their fans and messages take the whole "Echelon" thing way too far. It technically doesn't even exist, tbh. I mean, MCRmy had thestreetnetwork until those went down, at least. I remember I ran the joint-fandom MCRchelons on Twitter, like, religiously. But then the 30STM fans kept hounding me for "MOAR MARSSSS" once MCR finally had some updates in the Summer. So I was just like "screw that" and now the MCRchelons is abandoned. (:

But I know how you feel.

Regardless of age, I always threw myself fully into fandom. I think the earliest I remember was The All-American Rejects when I was almost eight; needless to say, the one fic I wrote was fluffy Tyson/Nick with a third-grade vocabulary. But it's AAR, so that wasn't much of a problem. Then they blew up and their fans either 1) told me to gtfo ( ... )

I'd never really been in a fandom until I'd joined 30's in around '03 or '04. I'm 24 this year and have been online for about ten years, and just never bothered with any of that stuff, y'know? And when I got into 30 I just kinda fell into the writing of it, the idea of unity and family, like you said. And then the fans started turning into elitist little assholes, and then the band started taking this cult and hive crap to a whole new terrifying level. When Matt Wachter left the band, so did I, basically. And I have to admit, when I saw 'Diehard Believer' in your profile, I was worried you might go RAAAH at me when you saw this, but I was like WELL IF SHE DOES AT LEAST WE TRIED ( ... )
