pet rant

If you want a good angrymaker, just check out the Pets section on craigslist. Soooo many dumbfucks who should never have been allowed to have pets in the first place looking to get rid of them when they become inconvenient. I tend to take a pretty dim view of people who get rid of their pets in general. Sometimes things truly do happen that are ( Read more... )

I can't even go into pet stores anymore because I feel so bad for the animals there. I have to buy all my pet supplies online these days.

I'm really angry about the baby/pet thing. That's how pet allergies start by not letting you kids grow up with pets and not letting them play outside.

I have the conditions of my cat in my will, I'm so paranoid that something will happen to me and therefore something bad will happen to her. I want to be safe and loved not let go onto the streets.

Wasabi's a lucky cat. I know people sometimes snicker at those who include their pets in a will but dammit, they live with you for years, you like to know they're taken care of!

It makes me so sad/mad when people just assume that their pet and their kid will be antagonists (though I also know sometimes a new kid makes it impossible for an otherwise caring owner to give the right kind of attention to a pet and it needs a better home environment) and they boot out the pet before even giving it a chance. When I was born and growing up, we always had cats and dogs and I don't remember there ever being a problem except when they died and I got all sad and shit.

My cat has an expected lifespan of at least 8 more years. If I get hit by a bus tomorrow, she has half her life to look forward too and I'd wish anyone/thing I cared about as much happiness as I can provide. Maybe, Wasabi will be like Jackson and live to over 20 and I'd be an ass not to take care of her until then.

Oh, Oscar! I think he's much happier to still have his claws and be with you. Our cats certainly scratched up some things. Not too much ruined furniture, but they all LOVED the wooden support pole of our staircase. Oh well. I've also received my fair share of cat scratches but so what, they're scratchy bastards and they do that sometimes, it just comes with having a cat. Only occasionally was it the result of play that got out of hand, usually it was because one of them got excited and used claws as traction as they jumped out of my arms ( ... )

welllllll a more accurate analogy would involve not just removing your fingernails, but removing the tips of your fingers up to the first joint. that is basically what declawing does. so it's even worse. :(

anyway yeah. time to go feed the scratch machine.

That's how my mom always explained it to me, because it limits their ability to hold things more than just taking away fingernails would do. Yuck.
