on retirement

Well on Thursday I went to see my doctor and told him that I could not stomach going back to work. I got physically sick in the morning just thinking about going into work. The stress and the pressure at work, the poisonous office politics, just became too much and crying at coffee break because I can't take it anymore is not the way to go. So I am ( Read more... )

I'm sad to read of this situation, but I'm glad you could use sick leave (if paid leave time). It's always troubling to see experiences where someone is persona non grata, the decision-makers cannot simply throw one out, and so people do/say/decide things that make the workplace horrid for the individual.

For now, I wish for you rest and some happy moments in these summer days, then a redirection during the autumn. I look forward to read what you choose to do. For now, I wish you rest, peace, and good health, Laurent.

I'm sorry that you had to experience this, but glad that it turned into having some time for yourself, and prepare more than you already have, for the retirement.

That sucks that it has gotten that bad.
Whatever happened to taking advantage(in a good way) of those that have experience? :o
You see that at the clinic/hospital I work at. They don't care about those of us with seniority. It's all about getting new bodies in through the doors and ignore those that stay. :(

I'm so sorry to hear that it has become that unbearable.

The same thing that you are experiencing seems to be happening with my company as well. Within about two years, the staff in my office went from an average age about about 50 to an average age of about 32.

I was lucky enough to have been the youngest staff person before it all started happening so I have been unscathed, but now everyone is my age.

I am very aware of the age thing, in private industry and in government. What I do not understand is the lack of respect. It is easy enough to say to staff that they should think of retirement and offer an incentive, instead of the nasty approach. But that seems to elude HR.
