I missed this first time round. I wasn't away but was obviously in the thick of the Irish troubles when it was originally posted. The banner is another stunner and your Darla is nigh on perfect; the twisted relationships within the fanged four family firmly grounded in canon. Nice to see Crowley in there too, and Angelus' appearance was a complete surprise. Was it really Angelus?

There's just one little note that disturbed the magic for me, Spike calling Darla his 'mistress', even as part of his ploy to guard his perimeter. Then hearing Spike refer to both Dru and Angelus as his 'sire' within a few sentences also made me stop to consider. Of course this is your Spike, but both things grated a little, despite the fact that you acknowledge Spike's own admission that he needs a second skin to protect him.

Drusilla was a Blake fan - of course she was, he had visions similar to hers.

Quite possibly! But this was written quite some time ago, just after I started posting fic.

It's great isn't it? The layered effects are wonderful. And I asked for Farrah!flick, and I got it! :)

Yes, this fic was all about tying things up together. And I guess it was whoever Darla wanted it to be...
You make some good points about Spike here and to be honest, I wrote this so long ago that I probably might have altered it somewhat if I re-wrote today.
Spike calling Darla his 'mistress'
I've always used that device, because in my mind it's Spike's way of being deferential to Darla but at the same time being slightly naughty. It's like their own private game between each other. I think Darla tolerates it, because she likes it, likes the feel of the power she has over him.
Then hearing Spike refer to both Dru and Angelus as his 'sire' within a few sentences also made me ( ... )

Oh, this is just perfect and gorgeous and lovely and I want to soak in it forever. My very favourite Sparla that I've ever read. Maybe it's the setting that helped out? 1970's New York is an intriguing place in time and punk Spike never fails to please! Anyway, you really blew me away with this one. ::loves:: I could just eat it with a spoon.

"I was saying let me out of here, before I was even born it's such a mgrpfm mpfrm mrpf."

Now, I'm sure we know where Spike gets his version from, but tell me, sweets, do you know this song because of Richard Hell or Whiskeytown? Ahh, Ryan Adams is love.

He must really know what it means to be a punk. He really knows.I loved this bit with the young kids. Very in tune with my dorkesque thoughts of youth. I remember always feelings so squirmy at punk shows because no matter what I was wearing, I knew I was a poseur. Ahh, the glamorous life of being a real punk. ::snickers:: Isn't it silly, but most of those boys I was so in awe of all had mommies waiting for them at home. Heh. ( ... )

LM, you already know how much I love this one, but kittyzams's comments have made me love it even more!! You knew it was possible!

Whadda know, Spike's a poseur too.
yup, complete with his mummy complaining about the hairstyle *g*

I love how pharisaical Darla is here. 'Cause lord knows, she must love that tongue.
love the lines you picked out ... all my favourites, but with a new spin through your eyes!

I wonder what other joys await?
I'm completely in the same boat ... she squirrels them away, I'm sure *g*

Hee. It's always fun for me to read other people's comments and get a glimpse of the fic through new eyes. amybnnyc, for example, really blows me away with her feedback.

I always have to skim the comms on LM's flist to make sure she didn't hide a new fic from me. I'm sure she has stories just sitting on her computer that will never see the light of day. Naughty girl. *g*

I love the banner! Really neat job on Darla's hairstyle.

I love reading Amy's comments too ... she usually manages to say what I'd like to a lot more eloquently :)

I'm sure she has stories just sitting on her computer that will never see the light of day.
yup ... it might be worth a trip to NZ to check ;)

and thanks for the compliments on the banner! ... must admit the hair is all Farrah and required very little from me *g*

Oh my God! There is all kinds of good stuff in this story. Punk!Spike is always fun and I loved being able to see what Darla might have done during that time period as well. She and Spike are never boring together, that lovely combination of sex and snark. And, the addition of Angelus to the mix really threw me for a loop, but of course, it makes sense. Funny how the whole family continues to follow each other around the world without realizing it.

Loved this one, pet!

Exactly! They make all sorts of sense together, really it's all about one-upmanship :)

Yes, and there's a little bit of help from the writers too, placing Angel in New York (BtVS 2) at the same time of Spike's slayer killing. I'm more than sure Darla was around there too ;)
So glad you enjoyed it and thanks for saying so!

Wonderful story. I love all the foreshadowing of what's to come, and I certainly never expected to see Angel turn up. But the best part was his reaction to Darla and Spike, and Darla leaving to find to him. Thanks so much for writing this wonderful story.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. I'm so glad you enjoyed it and took from the story so many key points. I'm glad that Angel was a mystery too :) I doubt Angel would have made a very good cuckold, even if he had given up on the girl :)
Thanks once again, you made my day with your lovely comments :)
