Yesterday, I woke up, and got halfway through checking my email when the internet stopped working. I rebooted everything, and when that didn't work I called tech support. The old SBC tech support number forwarded me to a machine asking for my AT&T phone number. I enter the number, and it decides that I don't have an account with them, but I can ( Read more... )

Have you looked into the cost-effectiveness of you two getting cell phones to replace your landline? I'm saving money by not having a landline, and it's rather convenient to be able to take my phone everywhere with me.

That's what a couple people have said, but I really hate cell phones. They turn people into zombies.

They also get lost, run out of batteries, and randomly decide not to work in places like my bedroom.

A few things on this point:
a) your cell phone has an off button. Don't use it if you don't want to. Ask David, I refuse to answer miine ALL the time :)
b) with the rate at which you two get lost and your cars break down, for your own well being it makes sense to have a phone you can carry with you. If you only get one cell between you, it's not much different than now.
c) Cell phones hold all your phone numbers, in case you lose that scrap of paper or reciept with our numbers on it that you have in your purse, or if your whiteboard gets messed up.
d) Am I a zombie???
e) Another point to note, if you use SBC/AT&T for internet you have to have a phone line anyway, at least the basic line. I have the minimum so I never use or answer that line and it's like $10 a month for the phone, and $29.99 for internet. Comcast offers internet, which used to seem expensive until SBC/AT&T bumbed my internet up to $34.99. I think Comcast charges $49.99 right now IF you also have cable.
