Announcing LJ United.

Apr 25, 2008 17:13

I wanted to let the LJ Speaks community know about the creation of ljunited-- a coalition of LiveJournal users dedicated to putting forth a slate of two qualified candidates for the upcoming LJ advisory elections, drawn from individuals who believe in basic principles for LiveJournal that are very much appreciated by and in line with the beliefs of the LJ ( Read more... )

Odd, as I used LJ's standard web post client.

Could've been that I copied and pasted sections from other posts... but still, I'm curious how those tags got in there. Stripped them out with an html edit.

That is odd! I'll have to test that then, there are a lot of strange HTML artifacts in the post text, like random , that someone typing up the post raw wouldn't have.

Was it the plain client or the rich client? Did you type it up in another program before copy pasting it in?

I would certainly like to see her join LJUnited, as I think it would be a good acknowledgement that she views that the promises which were made to LJ's users should be the basis of our aspirations.

While these promises have already been compromised, I feel that the loyalty of LiveJournal's members, the growth of the community, and the profitability of the site would be considerably better today had they not been changed to such a degree.

If I were this community I'd ask theferrett, he's one of the best known LJers around and is very conscious of many of the issues. However, he may not have time to do this.

And, thus, you convince yourself that you are doing something.

In the wake of the 24-hour boycott, the administration put forth a few pious words but did nothing substantive, and then paused to see whether ostensible activists like you would be willing to do something more.

So, what are activists like you doing? A longer boycott? Nope. Coördinated deletion of journals? Nope. Playing the game that the administration creäted? Yep.

I don't see how the 24-hour boycott -- that I wasn't personally involved in -- is relevant.

That's not to say that I didn't support the idea of doing something. It was pretty obvious to me though that the boycott wasn't going to accomplish its goals... and, as I've made clear in my journal, I'm not clear that any kind of LJ member advisors will be able to have a meaningful say in LJ/SUP's policies, because they've already ignored the site's founder.

If the management continues to ignore the advice given to it, I think it's important to have LJ's appointed boardmembers be willing to walk away from the table, in order to show the users that they aren't going to legitimize such actions.

What you seem to be arguing is that its better to either leave or do nothing, rather than to do something which *may* help somewhat.

A failure to see that would be sad, because one can only motivate a person or group of persons in terms of their preference structure, one is better able to do this to the extent that one recognizes that preference structure, and the boycott showed at least some recognition and acknowledgment of the preference structure of СУП. It was pretty obvious to me though that the boycott wasn't going to accomplish its goals…
Indeed. It was too little and too late. and, now, you propose to do what is - given the declared objectives and given the preference structure of СУП - even less! If the management continues to ignore the advice given to it, I think it's important to have LJ's appointed boardmembers be willing to walk away from the table, in order to show the users that they aren't going to legitimize such actions.
I underscore the word continue, because at best said advisors would only be positioned to walk away from the table in objection to ( ... )

So, your suggestion is basically to leave LiveJournal -- which won't accomplish anything by itself either -- and let someone with no talent or principles attend the advisory board meetings in a way that completely legitimizes the company ( ... )

Some of you have seen a whole thread come and go and come again for this entry. That's because insomnia is so intent on distorting appearances that for a time he screened that whole thread. This was to fool me into thinking that he'd deleted the whole thread, so that I wouldn't repost the comments that he truly deletes because he has been unable to formulate respectable answers to them.

When insomnia tries to present himself as a candidate for the Advisory Borad, or as a lobbyist on behalf of the community, remember his behavior here.

No. I stopped a conversation with you because you kept going on indefinitely about crap.

Deal with it, troll.
