some things of note

I've been thinking about some things, may or may not go through with all of them.

The definitely

- If Pokemon makes it as a category at ljvgia, it WILL NOT make it as a category here. Having two of the same category going at the same time is really pointless, the same people will win both. Since Pokemon is primarily a game, I'm letting the VG Awards ( Read more... )

Honestly, I'd suggest dropping Digimon from the serieses. I hope this isn't too forward or too rude, but I can't help but think that if it is in the top 15, that it's taking a spot that a more icon-centric fandom could have instead.

It was nommed pretty heavily, but go look at the icon selection on the digimon icon comms like digimon_icons - iconposts are infrequent, and I hope this doesn't sound too elitist or rude, but there isn't a great quality of icons in the fandom, probably because of the lack of iconists. There is only the tiniest handful of good iconists in the fandom, and they don't make a huge volume of icons compared to other fandoms that are below the top 15.

While that is true, I'm not sure how fair it would be to drop Digimon and allow other series to be put in its place. The very best I can do would be to allow the series just below the 15-mark in and keep Digimon.

Yeah. I mean, I can really understand that, because when you disqualify one fandom based on not having a very active icon community, where does one draw the line? But I think my biggest concern is just that I see some fandoms lower on the list that have a bigger icon-making population (and a much larger number of serious iconmakers) than Digimon, and it just really doesn't seem very fair.

The post says, after all, not to nominate a series just for the hell of it, but the unfortunate fact is that because this was pimped on three Digimon comms, it got a lot of nominations from people who were just trying to show their support for the fandom, irregardless of whether or not it actually has an active icon community. I don't know that it's really fair to other fandoms, as a result.

For us to try and judge which series are active and which are not would be a tad presumptuous and the point of holding these nominations will have been ... well, negated. So a group of moderators got together and discussed your points, and we've decided to do the following:

We're going to do a poll with the next 15 series underneath the current top 15. People will then vote on which of those series they want. Then the top 5 of that poll will make it in. This way the series that, as you said, have more iconmakers but less of a unified fandom have a chance of making it in.

This may not be the best solution, but I think it's the best course of action given the time constraints. Is this acceptable?
