Account Setting Smackdown!

Jun 27, 2009 17:21

A while back, gameboyguy13 started a Smackdown on FAQs that needed updating because they still pointed to the old "comment settings" or "viewing options" pages.

I've done those that I was priv-authorized to do, plus I wanted to notify y'all about one other one:

* FAQ 259

* FAQ 277

* FAQ 283

* FAQ 286

* FAQ 50, Read more... )

faq263, rfc, cat-features, status-resolved, cat-levels, faq50, smackdown, faq131, faq277, faq283, faq286, faq259

You can search for string names on http://www.livejournal.com/translate/edit.bml?lang=en. It requires certain privs, but I think among other things having faqedit will let you search. (Used to be that it required translate privs, but that's been changed.)

It looks like the string is simply "setting.selfcommentemail.option", so the tag in the FAQ will just be [[gmlitem:setting.selfcommentemail.option]].

With regard to the RFC, I don't like that wording but only because it's the only item in the list that explains how to activate the feature. I think instead it needs to be something along the lines of "Ability to receive notifications of comments I make" and link to 62, which would be the correct FAQ but needs some revision because of the different systems (so I'll be posting top-level about that).

And yay, congrats on the faqedits :)

two questions, then:

1) Would you want to *only* see the link to 62 (Comments) or also a link to 272 (notifications)?

2) Should I make the change now, or wait until more is done to FAQ 62? (I don't have faqedit privs for 62 or for any of the comments FAQs... so I'd be waiting on you guys for that for now...)

Hi Kate,

If you think the wording in 131 and 263 still needs to be looked at and/or changed, would you open a new support request in the Docs category so we can track it there?

Thanks!

You can also add ?uselang=debug (or &uselang=debug) to the page address and see the variable names in place. :P

I know... that's how I was able to tell that ".setting.selfcommentemail.option*" was what I needed to add to the code; I just didn't know HOW to put it into the variablized glmitem whatchamahoochie to get it to work. gameboyguy13 suggested how I should be putting it in; when I have time I'll try to fix those that I can. :)
