lots of stuff today

Oct 31, 2006 14:15

There's a whole lot of stuff going out today -- lots of small things, really, instead of a few bigger things -- so apologies in advance for the length of this update. As usual, we're still in the middle of getting this stuff pushed out, so changes might not take effect for an hour or two.

That's an impressive list, however yet again we are being troubled with missing/delayed comment alerts. I've been troubled all day. Isn't it about time LJ fixed this ongoing problem? Several friends, and myself, have also been experiencing laggy page loading and resolving errors over the last few days. Scrapbook still has inexplicable errors. There's all these new features, which is good, but tbh I'd rather have a reliable service than these features and ongoing irritating errors. I might not bother renewing my subscription if things don't improve. Why pay when things don't work properly? I've had a live journal for almost 4 years and this year has been the worst year with regards problems. Sorry, I don't like to complain but I'm fed up with these niggling daily problems.

I'm seeing errors indicating that we're unable to connect to your mail server:

* Error during DATAEND phase to [your-email-address]: 451 Enter message, ending with "." on a line by itself Temporary local problem - please try later

Can you try whitelisting lj_notify@livejournal.com to see if that fixes it? Otherwise, it's not something we can control -- we're trying to send out messages but your mail server isn't accepting them. :-/

I know there are other errors with things, though, and they're all things we're actively trying to fix; we hate it just as much as you do -- we use this site, too -- and we're trying our hardest to fix them as soon as we can.

Many thanks for the reply. I obviously didn't get an alert but looked here and saw your comment. I've spoken to my son who hosts my email, and the spam filter was having a hissy fit! It's fixed now. I feel bad for complaining about the other things :-/ I'm sure you'll get them fixed soon. Btw, I'm also getting the empty alerts [no comment text].

I find it a weird coincidence, but I have just stopped getting comment notifications as well; I've got gmail, and they're not showing up. I had a few just earlier but now I can comment with a difference account in my journal and marvel as no comment email shows up ;/

(1) I still occassionally get the null notifications. Is that being worked?

(2) Are they ever going to make it so we can put the little RSS and ATOM graphics in Component?

(1) Null notifications as in, comment notifs that don't have the reply text in them? If so, then yeah, it's a bug we're trying to hunt down. If not, can you clarify?

(2) File a suggestion? http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=164

(1) Yes, that's it.

(2) I would, but trying to figure out if it has already been suggested for component, accepted but discarded, etc, is too much of a pain.

How goes the duplicate notification issue? That whole receiving 2 or 3 messages *and* emails if someone friends you, or LJ sends a message or somesuch?

When someone friends you -- it's not actually duplicate notifications, it's that person friending and refriending you that many times. With the LJ notices, we're temporarily not sending those out till we fix the problem.

I have an extra one (I'm a support volunteer, so they sent me two... you can have my one that's not signed by the staff :P)

I would just charge you for shipping, since I got it for free :)
