I can't get past my prologue is anyone here willing to read and give feedback? It would be in an unlocked post in my journal. Also my title is bugging me suggestions? My intro post is here http://lj-nanowrimo.livejournal.com/145652.html if you want to read it.
Why hello there! This is my first time writing in a foreign language for NaNo and so far - I'm good! I mean, everything goes smoothly, even though I have to look up a lot of words online which kind of breaks my flow when writing but meh. D: At least I might be able to learn some new words. Or the meaning of some words I thought I knew the meaning of already. xD I'm still afraid about the next write-ins I'm going to attend: I don't have a good dictionary. Neither a printed one nor one on my laptop. Therefore I'll have to ask other people for advice all the time. I hope this won't annoy them too much. Also, I hit 25k yesterday, maybe going for 30k today. :) (Btw, the foreign language I'm writing in is English. My native language is German.)
Well, I actually wrote 11k on my first day but got to 25k yesterday. :') Oh, uh, I didn't even know if 'write-in' is the right term. That's just what we call the get-togethers with the people of my home region in our capital cities. :')
Day 1: I had a lot of work to do. Who would have thought that I would actually have to do work while I was at work? Chu, right? So, I only got about 500 words written during the day. It wasn't a gym night for me, so I managed to get in the rest of the day's quota once I got home from work
( ... )
Just in case anyone wondered...someone posted a reply to this suggesting Dropbox. I'm guessing it was blocked because of advertising, or something.
Anyway, yeah, I know about it. I just don't use it because I'm often writing on my work computer and some sites, like Dropbox are banned. There are other ones too, but I like using my e-mail.
I email my story back and forth from work, too, and I've committed the same whoopsies as you--so annoying! I also had no idea sites like Dropbox existed, so thank you for sharing that.
Oh, and best of luck adding in your bad guy to the beginning of your story!
Another couple of suggestions: there's a site called writeboard[dot]com that you might be able to use. It kind-of reminds one of Notepad, but it allows simple formatting (italics, underline, bold, horizontal rules). You don't need an account, just an email so they can send you the link to your "writeboard." It saves whatever you write on the server (but doesn't publish it for others to see). It's one I use when I'm in-between classes and want to get things done. There's also a site with an online word processor called zoho[dot]com. You do need an account with them, but it's almost like an online version of Word.
I know you weren't really looking for sites, but I figured I'd share anyway since you didn't know about Dropbox. >.> Emailing back and forth can get tiresome.
I'm very happy with my progress as I broke 20K last night. My story is coming together and I'm finding that if I write every story in my outline, I'll definitely exceed 50K. The thing that excites me most is that the response to my idea is very favorable and a lot of people look forward to reading it.
My one frustration is my partner has writer's block and is discouraged by the quality of my material (he compares himself to me, finds himself wanting), and I want to help him as much as I can but he's 350 miles away.
My partner is the same way at the moment, so I share your frustration. He seems really locked into the idea that he's never going to match me, and it's definitely affecting his word count. I'm tempted to actually show him some of my NaNo story (at the moment he's just reading through heavily edited short stories, which I've told him is an unfair comparison) but there's always a chance that he sees my shoddy draft and still feels his work isn't as good. He can be much too hard on himself.
In previous years I always felt NaNo success was heavily based on my confidence, but never figured someone else's self esteem would play into it too.
I don't even think my partner has started writing because he's that discouraged, which sucks. I can't go into our idea alone because the whole appeal of our project is that we have male and female lead characters and our book is a collaborative effort about dating pitfalls from the POV of both genders.
The worst part is he said he would need help on his dialogues and making his stories quotable, and then he sees some of my outline and is like "How do I compare with that?!" Then he also gets discouraged because mine could do well on its own and he thinks his parts will be dull. *Ugh*
What's the deal with our partners being too hard on themselves!? Don't they realize we wouldn't team up with them if they didn't have serious amazing potential for their stories (my partner is a writing partner, NOT a life-partner).

Have you tried www.dictionary.com? They also have a thesaurus feature.
