New Feature Idea: Adding a '+1' Feature

May 29, 2014 11:36

Hello!

As noted in our news post a few days ago about the redesign, we want to get better about asking for your feedback on new feature ideas or upcoming changes prior to rolling them out. We'll be reviving this lj_feedback community as part of that endeavor, and this 'new feature idea' post will get things started. (We're still monitoring the redesign post ( Read more... )

new feature idea, +1 ability

I do like the idea of making a +1 button so one can agree with a comment or post just to let the poster know you saw it, read it and agree with it without you having to make a full comment.

I also like the ability to be able to turn it of for one or the other or both comments and original post.

as for #4 I like to see my comment they way they are now. Main comment comes in, any comment to the main comment under it in the order they were posted. Don't go messing with the ordering of the comments. If someone comments on a comment, I don't want it sorted by most popular or "liked" comment. I want the comments to comments to be obvious to what comment it is attached to and in the order they are recieved. FB does the most popular or trending crap and half the time it makes no sense at all. Don't change something just for the sake of change. If it's not broken don't fuss with it.

I will reiterate, please don't try to make LJ into another FB.

Yeah, "I saw this" is the best use of +1/Like/♥ whatever, and that's how most people I know actually use the feature. "I saw this but don't have anything really to add, so I'm going to ♥ this but not waste your time with pointless excess verbiage." I'm kind of sad it was shouted down.

But wow, yeah, don't try to make LJ into FB. Or Google+, for that matter.

But what might be cool is proper reblogging, like on Tumblr, but better. Not a copy of the post added to your journal with a separate comments thread; the ability to have that other post appear in your journal, clearly and properly credited as a reblog, of course, and with the same comments section. It'd be akin to a Tumblr reblog, but with Livejournal's still-the-best comments system and better accreditation to original poster.

(Particularly if LJ put back Subject: lines universally in comments. Heh.)

I think that might be really cool. LJ-Feedback, you still watching these comments? What do you think?

I agree with this, especially with being against the idea of sorting by popularity, UGH.

I also agree with all of this and given that we will have the option to turn it of on our journals off we want to, I'm disappointed that the idea has already been nixed by those who don't want it but who could haves just turned out off and not used it. I'd I have something to say about a post, I do, but often wish I had a way to acknowledge posts or comments to which I really have useful to add. Please don't dump the idea so quickly.

Yes! I agree.

Don't make it into google-crap either. One of g-c's recent 'innovations' was to make categories for emails (social, business, etc.) and to sort users' emails into the categories. Some people didn't see all the category boxes and missed messages. Fortunately, there was a way to change it back to one email inbox. Hopefully, it will remain a user's choice.
Hopefully, lj won't become more and more 'google-ified.'

'+1' is fine for lj_photophile to comment on a photo and vote in the photo contests.
Otherwise, leave a brief comment, but not as brief as +1..

Agreed. It's senseless to read replies that don't correspond to comments.

I don't care for the +1 feature on YouTube. It creeps me out when it shows up in my email.
