The friends page has been redesigned as a system page for all users, and is now available for Beta testing. There will be a link at the top of your friends page allowing you to switch between the new and old versions allowing you to switch back and forth between both versions throughout the beta testing

Same here! Reading text on a bright background gives me an excruciating headache that meds will not touch. That's why I customize my journal pages to be darker so that I can read everything without subjecting myself to pain. Really, LJ?? I can't and won't deal with this. I used to be a paid member but having a paid account wasn't any better than a plus one, so I downgraded. If you force these changes on us, I will be finding another place to use. Thanks for letting YOUR USERS choose what they want! Big time FAIL.
This exactly. I have all my pages custom CSS so I can have grey on black or red on black because any bright colours will trigger migraines for me. if it's forced on me, I probably won't leave, but I'll have to use browser overrides, which is a pain in the ass.
The new friends page is, by far, one of the butt ugliest things I have ever seen. I'm switching out of the beta and back to the current site scheme as quickly as I possibly can -- and I'm going to stay there until you either get rid of this disaster or give us no other choice to use it. That is, no other choice if we're going to stay on LJ.
I've been splitting my money between LJ and DW for some while now, since all the LJ 'improvements' (yeah right) started to damage my user satisfaction too much to ignore, but I think DW is going to get all my blog money from now on.
I hope that you are prepared for the shitstorm that is a-coming your way because of this, because people have gotten wind of it and they are not happy. It seems like there's a big disconnect, because a lot of us have styles for ourselves, not for our readers. I'm the one who looks at my LJ everyday, in *my* style - the people on my friends list are looking at my entries in *their* style. Why make us all use the site the same way?
People use LJ for readability and customisation. If you start taking those things away, why would people continue using you over Tumblr or Facebook? We're here for LJ, not because we want you to turn in to an Tumblr/Facebook clone.
I don't know why I'm bothering to comment, I realised awhile ago that LJ's revenue stream obviously can't be coming from their paid users anymore. I guess I still hope that someone at LJ might listen and take in to account the very real fact that these changes are a) taking away choice and flexibility and b) making the site pretty much inaccessible for those who may need the

I think I gave up on holding out hope and hoping for common sense a long time ago. I'm the only one who reads my friends page. If anyone else does, that's their problem. I want it the way I set it up. Not that it matters to lj, apparently.
It took me years to customize my journal from the base layout layer *up*, and with every change I had to go back and learn yet more coding I never wanted to know to be able to keep it looking like I wanted it to. And now, dear lj, you're taking ALL OF THAT TIME AND EFFORT AWAY FOR ALL USERS. Um. WHY IN THE EVER-LOVING HECK WOULD YOU DO THAT. I GOT MY FIRST PAID TIME JUST TO BE ABLE TO CUSTOMIZE THE LAYOUT LAYER, AND IT AND THE ICONS ARE THE ONLY REASON I'VE BEEN CONSIDERING PROLONGING MY PAID ACCOUNT EVEN AFTER ALL YOUR DISASTROUS CHANGES THIS PAST YEAR.
Rest assured I move to dreamwidth with my money and my custom layouts faster than you can say "another update our users dnw lolz suxx 2 b them" if I cannot keep my "old" f-list.
FYI: Depending on what layout style you use, there's a way to transfer some of them over to DW. I know they have it available in four format, flexible squares being one of them (which I've found is the most popular for customized themes).

Easy to manage steps for it can be found here: http://starlit.dreamwidth.org/272.html
But DW also has some layouts that I've found I really like too. Either way, LJ's screwing themselves with this move.
