I've gotten alot of fics almost finished and I'll get around to posting them eventually
One of these is Singe-Ange, or the one where Castiel is a monkey. IN FRENCH! and then I translated it into English, but I wrote it in French and it's the thought that counts.
I also have a story in which Christopher Pike and Jim Kirk intersect because of ( Read more... )

Narnia and His Dark Materials are both favourites of mine. I would say read the Narnia books first jsut because I grew up on them, but it doesn't really matter. They are both exceptional series'. Actually, I really love everything Phillip Pulman has written.

His Dark Materials!!!

dude I do have to read Salman Rushdie, and that sounds SUPER AWESOME.

Maybe I will be able to read a book in a couple weeks ;)

You really do need to read Salman Rushdie. I'd say start with Midnight's Children, just because it's a bit more straightforward and the narrator has a purpose. But yeah, in Shalimar there's a guy who can't forget anything, so his senses overlap and he chastises his cook because the lamb "is too pointy" and spite tastes like almonds and revenge is like the softest velvet.

I've decided to either read Subtle Knife or try reading both series at the same time for the mind trip.

A couple weeks? Do you still have school or something? I just can't imagine going that long without a novel (or two) in my bag AT ALL TIMES.

COOL. Sort of like Borges's "Funes el memorioso"? Except crazier, it sounds.

girl I am starting the finals jag! I am done after 5 or 6pm on the 12th because I also have a 12-hour shift of work that day. I am a complainer, don't listen to me complain. And then I get to, I dunno, maybe move all my stuff somewhere, still confused about living situation - and then I start work on the 17th. Ooh, so technically I get a week off! GOOD.

I can't read novels while in school. I just can't. Fic is my attention span's max, and my time-to-goof-off quota.

Ooh! I was reading Borges earlier in the year. Not the one you mentioned, but I read one called "The Weary Man's Utopia" which is from one of the last books he ever wrote. It was really good, but a bit sad.

Oh, finals, that makes sense. But at least you get a week off. For me, I have to go to that seminary program almost immediately after I graduate. And when I get back from that, it's the fourth of July and I need to carry the colors in our parade. And after that I need to prepare for my Gold Award ceremony. So it'll be the middle of July before I have any time to myself. I guess I'm a complainer too ;)

Oh, well if it comes to deciding between fic and novels, I'd have to just drop the fic. I'm thinking of cutting down on the lj-ing I do once I'm in college anyway.

I'm glad you approve of my recommendation, and I think I will read HDM if I can find the book.

ALSO! I found "Elementary FOrms of Religious Life" online and started reading it. I'm like in love with this guy just from the Table of Contents. Is that weird? "Animism reduces religion to nothing more than a system of HALLUCINATIONS"! OH SUSAN! OH CRAZY JADIS CLIMBING INTO DREAMS!

This is SO exciting! I'm stopping every few pages as I go along to write down quotes that are really cool. Especially the part about "all religions are equal. All are true in their own fashion; all answer, though in different ways, to the given conditions of human existence." CS Lewis needs to learn that and stop beating on Tash. (Sorry, that's the context I first learned about this book so I can't separate the two in my mind anymore)
