I've gotten alot of fics almost finished and I'll get around to posting them eventually
One of these is Singe-Ange, or the one where Castiel is a monkey. IN FRENCH! and then I translated it into English, but I wrote it in French and it's the thought that counts.
I also have a story in which Christopher Pike and Jim Kirk intersect because of ( Read more... )

I'm glad you approve of my recommendation, and I think I will read HDM if I can find the book.

ALSO! I found "Elementary FOrms of Religious Life" online and started reading it. I'm like in love with this guy just from the Table of Contents. Is that weird? "Animism reduces religion to nothing more than a system of HALLUCINATIONS"! OH SUSAN! OH CRAZY JADIS CLIMBING INTO DREAMS!

This is SO exciting! I'm stopping every few pages as I go along to write down quotes that are really cool. Especially the part about "all religions are equal. All are true in their own fashion; all answer, though in different ways, to the given conditions of human existence." CS Lewis needs to learn that and stop beating on Tash. (Sorry, that's the context I first learned about this book so I can't separate the two in my mind anymore)

Well I've finally gotten past thinking about Durkheim in terms of Narnia and now I love it for its own awesomeness. ZOMG our perceptions of space-time is limited and shaped by the society we come from. I am just in love with the concept of time in any form. Also, religion doesn't just enrich the intellect, it FORMS the intellect! And apparent cause/effective cause would be such an interesting couple because there's the whole question of which one has the actual power in the relationship. *brb, exploding with glee*

If I can find the pdf file, I read a great article on the organization and historicity and institutionalization and rationalization of time. it is by EP Thompson, it is great, though I don't remember if its impenetrable or not. Durkheim is nice, it's big ideas but really flowing easy-to-read writing.

APPARENT CAUSE / EFFECTIVE CAUSE
you are totally making me want to reread Durkheim now! eeeee

I want to write that fic so much, but I don't know about the concept quite well enough to know how it would turn out. I guess Apparent is the flashier one, and always needs to be the center of attention, while Effective is quieter and works on the sidelines. This could either be a jealous relationship as they both try to be the reason things happen, or they could be working together as spies for motives of their own.
