must get cat off kibble and canned. one cat turd is half again as big as one of Spike's.

OMG!!

thankfully, it's good quality canned, at least the turd wasn't loose or particularly stinky.

but OMG, it was MASSIVE!

she WILL eat raw. she WILL. what do you feed Mollie cat?

I feed Natural Balance fat cat food. Mollie likes it :)

*googles*

that looks good. it's not available in the UK as far as I can tell, but there are premium organic human grade canned and kibbles that are. I may end up going that route. I don't mind buying hugely expensive stuff when it's just one small beast eating it.

Cats are full of it.

My cat won't eat anything but kibble. I've offered her everything from steak to salmon to tuna to chicken. She looks at me like I just put a huge pile of dog poop in front of her. Picky little brat, she is. All cats are really. You might have to play around a little bit to find a combination that she likes.

Monet-kitty will try and steal your cereal milk if you don't pay attention though.

yes. I know from people in rawdogs that it's MUCH more difficult to change a cat's diet than a dog's, so I'm very grateful that she's at least willing to try the raw minced meat.

if she digs her heels in, I can live with feeding her canned, although that isn't very good for her teeth and I don't feel comfortable using something labelled "meat" when I don't know what the meat is or how fresh it was. I looked at the ingredients list on the kibble that came with her and the FIRST ingredient listed was "cereal". the stuff has a total meat content of like 10%. at least the canned is all meat.

I hope she'll go for the whole mouse diet. that's really the best one can do for a cat, health wise - but like you say, one's hands are tied. it's not like you can force feed them.

Heh. Most domestic cats wouldn't know what to do with a mouse anymore. LOL

I recommend buying one of each until you know if she likes it. That way if she gives you the "WTF are you thinking?" look, you don't have a bunch of extras going to waste.

This is also very true. I know the dogs would eat anything she didn't, but I certainly don't plan on buying more than one or two.

it'd be great if I can get her to eat small whole prey though. it's exactly what her body evolved to need and it'll keep her teeth nice as well.

I love kitties. :-)

Lucifer eats cooked fish 3 times a week. It's the cheapest kind there is, and he *loves* it! It's Alaska pollak filet, deep-frozen from one of the food discount stores around here. Very convenient that he doesn't like tuna or salmon or whatever. The rest of the time he gets kibble.

My mother's cat has a similar diet - cooked coley, defrosted frozen prawns and kibble.

Mum got tired of opening cans for her and throwing half of it out. Prawns might seem expensive, but unlike the canned food she never, ever has to throw any of it away, and ounce for ounce it's actually about the same price.

Dried whole small fish you can get for other creatures are also good sources of natural crunchies. :-)

ahhh! that's a GOOD idea!! thank you! I've seen those for sale before.

there's one woman on my f-list who has a dehydrator and uses it to make dried jerky treats for her animals (and herself too, I think.) I shall have to look into that.

I don't have a problem with people feeding cats a raw diet as long as they brush the cat's teeth. Either that or feed some kibble. Cats need crunchies to keep their teeth clean. AS a long time cat owner who have had cats with gum disease, it is not a pleasant thing.

the plan is to try and get her to eat either small whole prey with bones, and/or bone-in chicken wings, either of which will take care of her teeth. don't worry, I'll look after her teeth one way or another!

You obviously love this little kitty already! :-)

definitely! she's so sweet! little pink and white paws!

I'm also a bit obsessed about what goes into my animals. I mean - read the ingredients on the packet of most commercial pet foods. Mystery meat of unknown origin, cereal, peanut hulls, ash and gunk. It'd be like having a kid and never feeding it anything but McDonalds. I feel better about myself feeding them something as close as I can conveniently get to the diet their bodies evolved for.
