Mike and I had a very little extra money, so we put it to the good use of splurging on ourselves a little bit for the purposes of regaining our sanity.
There was so much in that post that my brain nearly exploded. :)
Ms Rowling makes it fairly clear on her website that she does indeed read st least some of the fanfic. (Incidentally, I'm very impressed by the effort that's been put into that site.)
[HP spoiler alert] . . . . . . . . .
A final note: all bets are off in year seven. The formula has been crashed. We start at the Dursley's, it's all who knows what from there. I can't fucking wait.
Will we start at the Dursleys, though? Won't Bill and Fleur's wedding come first? I'd been assuming that it was due pretty much when the school year ended, though on reflection I'm not sure why.
One thought that occurs to me is that wizards and witches may believe that you come of age at 17 but muggles do not. So Hermione may have a lot of trouble to persuade her parents that she should help Harry in his quest. No doubt she won't tell them everything, but she'll have to think of something to say to them.

Yes well, sometimes I let this thing go for a while and then have a lot of geeking to catch up on.

Right, right. I was there once, and very impressed by the pretty and the flashy, but didn't have time for an in-depth look. Havn't gotten around to going back there yet.

And I thought the wedding was for closer to the start of the next school year, though like you I'm not sure why. I figured we'd open at the Dursley's, Harry would have him birthday and make his goodbyes, and then we'd do the Wedding. But who the hell knows?

That last point has also occurred to me. I'd love to know what muggles think of having a witch as a child. They're obviously OK with it, though they did want to correct her teeth themselves, being dentists. I was delighted with Hermione tricked the nurse witch (blanking on her name) into doing it after Malfoy made them grow.
I like the 17: prime number and with the magical 7 in it. :-)
sack the useless nag and keep the centaur, would you?
I disagree. Trelawney actually predicts disaster approaching the lightning-struck tower, and I'd have to reread her earlier bits to see if they had substance but I suspect they did. She's mostly fake but every now and then she hits it.
I think you're totally right with what Dumbledore was saying with his "Severus" and I did a post about it too. I have some other theories too like Dumbledore was already dying at the start: the withered hand was an outward symptom (this is in the comments). He says some things in the cave which make me think he knew he was dying, and soon, and that was why he took all those risks. I think he also told Snape which was why he was desperate to get back and find him. Anyway, go read and I'd love to hear you reactions. I'd say more in response to your remarks but I think I said most of it there and in the discussion I had with jhall1. :-)
Damn, I wish I'd known about that Farscape book coz I bought some books for astrogirl2 last month in return for a favour and that

I'm pretty sure that book's on my wish list somewhere, although maybe I added it after you looked, I dunno. It hasn't been published yet, anyway.
I did finish the HP last night, btw (well, early this morning), and took a quick look over your post before I left work. More comments will probably follow, here and there, but all I can say for the moment is that there definitely was something going on between Dumbledore and Snape that was not apparent to Harry, and that I really have no idea what it was. It may, indeed, be that Dumbledore was dying anyway, and they both knew it, or that Dumbledore regarded it as worth dying to achieve something (not blowing Snape's cover?) and they both knew it. It's quite possible, btw, that they communicated. Snape could easily have looked into Dumbledore's mind, if Dumbledore let him. But it's not at all clear what is going on, and any theory has to take into account his willingness to make the Vow in the first place, which is certainly, on the face of it, pretty damning. But there's got to be

Ooh, interesting thought. Even if they can only read minds (which Snape obviously can do, so I'd be surprised if Dumbledore can't), they would see each other's thoughts in reaction to their own which would be communication of a sort. Snape's hand did twitch before making the vow so I don't think he was that willing. Maybe he'd been ordered, like when Dumbledore extracted a promise from Harry that he would obey regardless of what he thought or how much danger Dumbledore was in.

Right.

Thank you... And Good Night.silly_dodgerJuly 28 2005, 01:05:29 UTC
Regardless of the facts that I have yet to see FF (Final Fantasy? No wait Fantastic Four yeah that's it.), and I 'hangs head in shame' have not read a single HP book (Hewlet Packard, what are you.... OH Harry Potter right.) I still read a chunk of your post.
As to the things that I can comment on..........
I think it's most fun to finish him off with a spray of grenades.
I tried to find it, but best I got was a 2003 article about his being flattered that he beat Alan Rickman to the #1 spot for new Who actors!(pre-new-series-greenlighting-talks news!)

Yes, that thought occurred to me, as well.
