Any book of short stories by Lovecraft, though you've probably done that already.

I actually haven't read a LOT of Lovecraft, just some.

Breakfast on Pluto if you haven't already.

No, that's one of those ones I keep meaning to, but I can't find it anywhere.

VNV Nation, though I don't know how much you'd like it.

Damn that rings a bell; where would I know them from?

No, I fear more adoptables sites eating my soul!

Mine :D

Lol! Link me?

I'm making an effort at reading Lovecraft for some bizarre reason.

Too much peacefull nights' sleep? :>

I think the only reason I managed to see Breakfast on Pluto was because Netflix is available to me. Best way to rent harder to find movies and anime.

I am starting to think I should just bite the bullet and get me a netflix membership, dammit.

I actually don't really spend time with dragons any more because Chicken Smoothie has eaten my soul and it has more variety darnit. And you can actually trade your critters and they don't die.

I have to admit, that does appeal but I am too much a Dragon-lover to tear myself away, and I KNOW I can't andle two of these sites. XD

I post my fic here: birgitrfics. Right now, all there is are Batman related drabbles. >.> I haven't written much because of school.

Thanks!

Eee! You're watching it! And I'm so glad you're enjoying it! I swear, one of these days I'm expecting somebody to check out that show on my say-so and come back with a raised eyebrow wondering WTF I'm so enthused about. :)

And I am now going to proceed to respond to your reactions in excruciating detail, because it's me, and I'm obsessed.

was that Jarod was a kid, or at least a teenager, during the series.

Ha! Well, he is very kid-like, in a lot of ways, and, of course, we see a lot of him as a kid in the flashbacks. But, man, this would be a very different show if it were about a teenager. :)

But I hold out hope for this being all filed in with flashbacks; they're reeeeeeeeeally good with them so far.The flashbacks... Well, they tell you a lot of things, and leave a lot of things mysterious... and create all kinds of new mysteries in the process. I wouldn't hold out hope of ever being filled in on everything. :) Actually, at least as far as I've seen up to, most of Jarod's adult life, pre-escape is sadly neglected. I ( ... )

I think perhaps we've captured another one, Astro.

*rubs hands together gleefully*

I really am starting to get a little freaked out by how effectively this whole thing has spread, and how many people it's sucked in so effectively. :)

Sydney I'm not crazy for - I don't dislike him, but mostly I just feel pity for him. Because his situation *IS* his fault and he can't see it.

Sydney is also incredibly complicated... I go back and forth a lot between desperately wanting to excuse the bad stuff he's done and focus on how he's basically a good person (because I love him, I really do), vs. getting upset at him because so much of the situation is his fault and there's really no excuse for his part in things. They're both true, you know? But the more you know about Sydney, and the more you learn about (or, in many cases, get hints and inferences about) his history with the Centre, the more complicated and morally ambiguous you realize that his situation is. Or at least, that's been my experience. I'll be very interested to hear your take on it as you watch more.

Again, I find that things in this show can be so amazingly shades-of-grey that they can spin your moral compass around until you don't know where it ought to point. It's deeply disconcerting at times, but ( ... )

I'm torn between "oh, you poor man, having this horrible stuff go on behind your back and see your work perverted" and "WTF Sydney you MUST have been wilfully BLIND to not see how fucked up and damaging and WRONG this all was" But I do genuinely FEEL for the man, really. I just think he's willfully naive on some things. I think Jarod (and Jacob) agree with me on that.

Again, I find that things in this show can be so amazingly shades-of-grey that they can spin your moral compass around until you don't know where it ought to point.

Parker is very cool, because she's a marvelous hard-ass bitch, who clearly has a much sweeter, more vulnerable girl inside her, which we get to ( ... )

Oh, yes. Me very much too, and I say that as someone who kind of adores the guy. :) And, you know, I think both of those things are equally true. I also think there's a lot of complicated stuff going on with Sydney, some of which we see and some we don't... I find that any time I'm feeling about ready to pass judgment on him, one way or the other, something else comes along to throw that judgment off balance again. And I'm never sure just how much is willful naivete -- although there very clearly is some, especially in the flashbacks -- and how much is just a resigned attempt to make the best of the terrible situation he's gotten himself effectively trapped in. (I, uh, could go on about that at great length, I think, with appropriate references to various S1 episodes, but these comments are already way ( ... )

It's nice to know it's not just me, and yeah, I think you're absolutely right.

True, but if you wanted to make a seperate post on that, I'd be more than happy to read it. ^_^

They are all freaking amazing, and I really do believe that the cast makes the entire difference between this show being a gem of freakish brilliance and it falling completely flat.

Absolutely true. I'm so glad the casting director stuck to her guns, and that the producers were willing to take a shot on relative unknowns and someone who had no audition materiel in English.

And I can not for the life of me understand why Andrea Parker is not a huge star by now.

You and me both. The mind boggles. She's gorgeous, she's brilliant, she was in a fairly high-profile show.... I dunno.

Even Raines may kinda-sorta get some layers eventually, but I'm actually ( ... )

The Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop

I don't think I've actually HEARD of it. What's it about?

American History X

Oooooh, yeah, I've wanted to watch this one for ages, too, but have never gotten around to it.

Uh. uh.. Shit. Primus! -pulls random group outta her head-

LOL! I think I have some of their stuff - not bad, IIRC, but a little to scream-y for me. If I'm thinking of the right band.

Mythbusters

I do catch it when it's on and I have TV - don't know if I could stand dvd-marathoning it, though. Information overload, you know?

Thank you for the links!!

American History X is excellent, but a bit hard to watch.

Yeah, I've heard that. Still want to make the effort.

-lol- Nooo. Not very screamy. It's totally silly, awesome music. They have the best bassist ever, though he's also got the weirdest voice ever. XD

Okay, I was totally thinking of a different band. I will check these guys out, thank you!

Your reactions to Jarod and Parker are very much mine. I wasn't at all sure about Jarod at first, but his childlike joy in the world and its astonishing weirdness just captivated me (and I rather liked the revenges). I loved Parker from the beginning ("I cause explosions") and I can't help but love Sydney too for his suaveness, genuine warmth behind it, and the goodness that's there although so very compromised.

The flashbacks do fill in a lot, and do does the present. I'm only up to early S2 so far because unlike you (and Astro and Red) I can't just forge ahead and eat as much as I want because Greg wants to see it too and we have a lot of other stuff queued. Bah.

So, want some icons? hereI've posted a few. Astro took #s 2 and 10.

I can't either, Mike wants to watch it too and we're also working our way through B5, and we only see the person we borrow them from once a week. So I've seen to the end of s1, but no further.

You've still been faster than me! Greg's away again; sigh.

I just joined a rewatch & discuss B5 comm, b5_revisited, though I've seen almost all of S1 again so far in the last few months. I must pimp that and the Pretender comm. You could also join in the discussions there, even if you don't watch an ep a week as they plan to. I'm going to continue at my pace and let them catch up. :-)
