But still... tough one to ret-con, the way they did it. They burned the corpse and everything.

Oh, that's easily gotten around. I mean, come on, it's the Master. :)

As a final thought: Is anybody with me on the theory that "Mrs master" was actually human!Rani, and that that was her picking up the ring at the end of the ep?

I've seen various fics imagining that she was some humanified Time Lord or other... And apparently RTD and co. joked among themselves that it was the Rani picking up the ring at the end. I dunno, I find it more interesting, actually, if she was just an ordinary (or, OK, maybe not-so-ordinary) human.

Okay, just for fun - you would you get around it?

Should I be worried or flattered that I apparently think like Rusty?

As do I, actually - but then we don't know the hand was hers. It could have been the Rani's.

Also: TOTAL ICON LOVE!!!!!

All right, consider the following: The Master, as far as I have been able to tell, had that ring of his on his finger during every single scene in the final two episodes. It would seem that he never takes it off. The fact that we're shown that shot of someone picking up that ring after his body is burned certainly makes that particular item seem significant. And did you notice the design on the ring? It's the same as the logo for Lazarus Labs. Which the Master founded. Which is dedicated to investigating neat biological tricks like, oh, creating a young body out of an old one. We also know that it's perfectly possible to store a Time Lord's memory and consciousness in an item of jewelry. Moreover, we know that the Master's a sneaky bastard who tends to have contingency plans for things, and who is an incredibly tenacious survivor. It's really just a matter of connecting the dots, isn't it ( ... )

O_O ...woah. Your turn to be both flattered and worried. Seriously, that's.... frighteningly plausible. How did that fly over my head?

So, yeah, the way I'd do it... Well, if Simm was available to return, I'd have the Master, with the help of an accomplice, probably Lucy, recreate himself using LazLabs technology and the biodata/mental backup he's probably got sored in that ring. If Simm's not available, then he'd clearly have to take over someone else's body (and perhaps use aforementioned technology to Time Lord-ify it?). Personally, I think it would be kind of cool if he took over Lucy's body, but somehow I doubt we'll see that. Although I wouldn't regard it as impossible.

*nods* I actually really like BOTH those possibilities.... and I also like the idea (because I still havn't given up on Head!Master) that the Krilitain could be somehow involved.... yay time travel....

Several people on my flist thought it was the Master's wife who picked the ring up at the end. I confess that it hadn't occured to me, but . . .

It was the first thing I thought of, because it was a woman's hand (or at least it looked like one to me).

Oddly enough for some reason the hand just didn't register with me as being anything other than a non-specific hand. I didn't 'see' the female bit.

Ho.Hum.
