Liz's Instant Glee-Cap - 5x09 - Frenemies

Feb 25, 2014 22:11

We're back! We made it through the Epic Winter Hiatus of Our Discontent! And here I am, attempting to recap from 1994 at my in-laws' house with NO DVR. NO PAUSE OR REWIND. SO MANY COMMERCIALS. Oh god, it was brutal. Okay, fine, it wasn't. It was actually kind of fun to just watch and not try to write. But anyways, you're getting more of an instant ( Read more... )

Yay I am happy to see you posting!!!

I thought the Schue break it down moment was just hilariously great! And I am on board with a little Klaine tension around Elliott if this is how it is set up. I really look forward to seeing what Blaine does with it.

Santana vs. Rachel is like a supernova of tension, which will be a thrill to behold for sure, even if it kills my Bushwick headcanoni!

I watched it again this morning (of course I did), and Schue's "now it's time for a breakdown," just like the original song, made me laugh almost to the point of waking M up. (And that guy could sleep through a marching band.)

I also found myself increasingly sympathetic to Rachel in her fight with Santana. That doesn't mean Rachel was a blameless angel in all of this, and I do understand Santana wanting to make some success for herself and knowing she's got the talent. But that understudy audition was about 95% "fuck you, Rachel Berry."

I felt so bad for Rachel, honestly. I mean, yes, she's far from blameless in her own diva-ness and insecurity, but Santana could hardly have been more abrasive if she'd tried. I know that's Santana and the way she processes her own issues by pushing when she's hurt, but I'm feeling more sad for Rachel than I am for Santana in this situation.

Is it Tuesday YET? grlxplr February 26 2014, 03:55:57 UTC
Oh, I am in love with this ep. It was great to see/hear Artie and Tina, reminding us of their roots and way back when. Also, I wondered if this was hinting that Tina might also end up in NY, (oh, and suddenly, there are only a couple of Tuesdays left in the year? Good to know, oh show that exists out of time). Also, re Blaine being valedictorian? Besides hilarious: in a world where the disqualified team gets advanced over the team that actually came in second at regional of course the third high GPA would get chosen ( ... )

I agree completely, and your comment about Blaine being valedictorian versus their Sectionals victory, OH MY GOD SO TRUE. I want to write a more thoughtful reply to individual points, but the stupid iPad version of LJ won't let me read your comment while writing. Boo. Just imagine me giving you a high five on the whole thing, that will have to do from a distance. :-)

Well, I'm nobody's mother, but I still had those thoughts about Santana's dress.

I enjoyed the episode too, a couple too many songs for me but maybe I felt like that because I didn't know all of them? Frenemy 1; Artie and Tina were great, loved their voices on En Vogue and their argument worked so well. Yeah, they're make up was a bit rushed but I actually liked that they didn't drag out being angry with each other, they're friends and they may have upset each other but they want to stay friends. I thought Blaine would be valedictorian before the ep, but when it was Artie and Tina fighting it out I let that go. So I was actually surprised when it did happen, this way was much more perfect, much more glee ( ... )

I would have imagined Blaine as valedictorian as well (OF COURSE), and I agree that it was even more hilarious the way they made that happen. Especially with the bit of meta "things just get handed to me." OH MY GOD that was funny.

And I am holding out hope for Rachel and Santana being/remaining friends. They will always fight. Their personalities and their history are entirely too much for them not to fight. But I honestly believe in their oddly strong connection to one another. Fingers crossed that things work out.

(And if anyone already knows the answer to that, LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU.)

I'm feeling so braindead this week... my thoughts about the episode are still limited to things like, "yeah, Kurt, subtle. Like a sledgehammer." I keep staring at your recap (because reading properly is apparently beyond me tonight) in the hope that it will spark a slightly more intelligent thought, but it's not really working...

And OF COURSE they magically made Blaine valedictorian. Tina and Artie's reaction cracked me up. And OF COURSE he'd like to sing instead of giving a speech. Oh, Blaine.

*cuddles him forever* Seriously, so damn adorable. So adorable.

Meanwhile, I did love getting to see Blaine and Kurt talk, and actually discuss things and share opinions. "Keep your enemies closer" is totally Blaine non-confrontational advice. Although watching Kurt try to do it was... ridiculous and funny.
