Liz's Instant Glee-Cap - 5x09 - Frenemies

We're back! We made it through the Epic Winter Hiatus of Our Discontent! And here I am, attempting to recap from 1994 at my in-laws' house with NO DVR. NO PAUSE OR REWIND. SO MANY COMMERCIALS. Oh god, it was brutal. Okay, fine, it wasn't. It was actually kind of fun to just watch and not try to write. But anyways, you're getting more of an instant ( Read more... )

Oh, I am in love with this ep. It was great to see/hear Artie and Tina, reminding us of their roots and way back when. Also, I wondered if this was hinting that Tina might also end up in NY, (oh, and suddenly, there are only a couple of Tuesdays left in the year? Good to know, oh show that exists out of time). Also, re Blaine being valedictorian? Besides hilarious: in a world where the disqualified team gets advanced over the team that actually came in second at regional of course the third high GPA would get chosen.

Santana raining on Rachel... I also don't have a DVR tonight or I would *still* be re-watching that performance. In that moment I decided I would certainly be downloading both renditions to listen to on repeat endlessly. The callback to Rachel's interpretation of DROMP then the segue into Santana owning the song/performance was breathtaking (although, was I the only one a tad distracted with the desire to tug Santana's hem down? Just me?). As far as her being cast as the understudy? see re: above regarding Regionals.

Kurt/Elliot/(a little bit of Blaine) Just so awesome. I can't express how much I want Elliot to be a continuing character. I noticed Adam Lambert's name in the opening credits in such a way that implies maybe he will. I really enjoy Kurt and Elliot together. And it is an ideal plot point for interest and tension. As soon as the snap got posted I thought oohhh... that won't feel good. There Kurt was doing just what Blaine encouraged him to do and... remember how that went down last time? I may be hoping for too much but I have at least the next six days to hope the K&B have been given a chance to process what went down last fall and how they will manage things differently this time.

As for the music in this episode. For me, Frenemies had it all. I love it when an ep has lots of songs and when they are well chosen as a style of plot progression. I also love a big jump around, hang from the scaffolding number. I love Sara Bareilles and I love it when Glee does music from my favorite artists.

I am so filled with hope for the rest of this season.

I agree completely, and your comment about Blaine being valedictorian versus their Sectionals victory, OH MY GOD SO TRUE. I want to write a more thoughtful reply to individual points, but the stupid iPad version of LJ won't let me read your comment while writing. Boo. Just imagine me giving you a high five on the whole thing, that will have to do from a distance. :-)

Coming back for a real reply. :-)

I agree with you, I am also filled with hope for the rest of the season. I know there will be ups and downs, but I have a good feeling about it. There is such potential.

And yes, I TOO was super distracted by Santana's dress during her audition. I get that the skin-tight micro-mini dresses are her thing, but she'd be just as sexy with another two inches of length. (God, I really am somebody's mother, aren't I?)

On re-watch, I am leaning towards the selfie smooch as really and truly not meaning anything between Kurt and Elliot in either direction (certainly nothing from Kurt's direction, and I'm cautiously placing my bets on Elliot just being an affectionate, flirty person in general). But that doesn't mean it won't get under Blaine's skin and cause some angst. Which is okay with me! Angst can be interesting, plus it means screen time and focus on people I like. Plus, I trust it to all work out in the end.

But yes, I very much want Adam Lambert to stick around, and my hope would be that all three of them could be friends (Kurt/Blaine/Elliot) and have tons of fun. Maybe Elliot would loosen Blaine up a little. I remain hopeful that Blaine will come to New York and undergo an image/fashion shift like Kurt has...

Well, I'm nobody's mother, but I still had those thoughts about Santana's dress.
