something to think about...

one of my problems with working in production is that i've always felt that it doesn't contribute anything to anyone, much less society... it's always seemed like a selfish, self-indulgent act to insist on working in this industry ( Read more... )

why pray tell would you think working in films is self indulgent?

Than I must be the most selfish brat around.

The way i see it....there are 3 films next year. Female Director and Ex-Boss' x 2... and since I'm intending to "retire", girl... there's loads to do! There are strangely too few people here, who want to do production work. Everyone wants to be a writer, director or director of photography.

Had a conversation with Jupiter the Stills Photog. And man, he made me realise that we have soooo much more to go before we are anywhere near a respectable industry. He was an AD for 20 years. Beat that.

Actually it was talking to him, that made me realise too, that I need to expand myself more, acquire more knowledge and world view, before I get all complacent and small minded.

hm. i guess it's circumstances as well. i could be more practical and get a job that pays more and is more stable since no one else in my family is really working. that's what i mean by being self-indulgent... especially when i find it hard to see a future in the industry here. just very torn.

With the exception of physicians, nurses, ambulance dudes & my fave char kway teow aunty...we all pretty much indulge ourselves in what we think is important and hope will give us a 'living'...

Do we really need stand-up comedy?
Do we really need arena rock?
Do we really need professional wrestling?

NOPE....but in the big picture, altogether it gives us balance and makes the world a more interesting place.

Well, that's how I justify playing with computers each day...
