We will likely never know. So much industry already relocated to Europe, Ress-Mogg transferred his HQ to Dublin, friends at Cardiff Uni worrying if they will be able to make up the annual 26% funding they receive from the EU, no plans in place for when Dover and other ports are storm bound, the list goes on. One thing for sure though - if there is a third EU referrendum (I include the 1975 one as valid) we will continue to be told a pack of lies and politicians will continue to state scenarios based on smoke and mirrors.
Your point is invalid. Those 27.79% who didn't bother to vote were idiots in the original meaning of this word. The original meaning of “idiot” (ἰδιώτης) in Ancient Greek was “a private person, someone who does not hold public office or participate in public affairs”. So the majority of non- idiots voted for Brexit. Take it on the chin and stop whining.
Today's paper has a column - there's an estimated 6.9 million eligible persons not registered to vote - largest percentages amongst the younger population and some ethnic groups (it did not state how these figures were estimated).
Unfortunately numerous election candidates are also idiots. Fancy not keeping your promise to end up dead in a ditch! You just cannot trust even the Prime minister these days.
Well, and then there’s all the equally British people living in EU countries who were denied a vote. If they had been allowed to vote the end result would have been a lot different.
"I realise the UK has a flawed - first past the post - electoral system and this is very unlikely to change" - I yearn for hung Parliament after Hung Parliament, just so they eventually concede that the system has to change.
I want to Remain but on the poll on the given day, not enough registered people turned up to say likewise. Of course, I would love another Referendum now, a chance to do it over again but with the media consistently so right wing and focused on Brexit, a lot of people seem to have been swayed by it or are just sick of hearing about it and so cynical that they feel nothing will change whatever happens.
Your comments ring true. I cannot help think it will be tought if we leave EU, and then if "the British People" want to rejoin, we'll have to accept Federalisation, the Euro and other bits that we previously never signed up to.
Yes, we will certainly get an inferior deal from the one we are throwing away now. Personally, I don't mind those other bits, I just trust 'Federal Europe' much more than I do the Tory Party to rule justly.
I dislike the thought of being a "state" in a federal Europe, which it seems is what France and Germany are striving for (and might have achieved if we had not visited France in 1939 but simply let them welcome the new "federation
