Seems like half the posts in this community in the last couple of years have been mine.

What I post in gardening: questions. Because there are so many members there, and so many members, I can have answers for pretty much any question in an hour.

What I post here: everything else. I like talking about my garden, and sharing stories.

Before I read his comment.. I agreed with low_delta. The strength of this community is the stories of our own gardens. Since I have a garden only journal.. I don't post much in communities other than questions. I probably would if there were a community that actively posted the every day stories.

As for a focus.. I am not sure. There have been so many that have come and gone, petal_party, alpine_garden, etc. etc. They all seemed to have had a narrow focus, and could not "compete" post wise with Gardening. My opinion is that a specific focus is not the way to go.

I personally would like to see a more.. education oriented community, (not questions answered, but step by step how toos) but that is just me, that might not be everyone else's cup of tea.

When I first started watching this community, it was the quirky, artistic version of the other gardening communities. I like the pics that people have shared of their plants and projects and living spaces. I keep hoping that I'll actually do something with my yard and have things to share as well. Meanwhile, I lurk and I look at pictures and have ideas.

I think ravensgarden has a good idea with the how-to suggestion. Maybe this place could be more like a gardening blog, with community members contributing things like profiles of their gardens or articles on how to do things like divide perennials or choose mulch or introductions to plants. It could be stimulating for people who spend alot of time recommending/identifying in other communities.

I agree with the previous commenters:

-Boo on too narrow of a focus
-Yes to garden stories, ramblings, epiphanies, moments, connections, resources
-Yes to DIY projects/how-tos related to gardening/yards (wider focus rather than plant-centric like... cobb structures? water gardening? pond building?)
-Yes to pictures and inspiration, always always.
-I think the "garden spotlight/profile" idea is cute.
-How about photos of regional and/or naturescaped gardens to really highlight the diversity of the community?

-Gardening = super for plant ID.

(Hate to cut this short, but gotta jam. Hope I was helpful?) :)
