Just about a week shy of a month.

What did you see?

...Damn.

Things that didn't feel right for the setting. Traces from people here.

Oh, and a great bloody tear in space, from the looks of it.

Enjoy your vacation?

Traces? Tangible things, or memories?

Huh. I take it you didn't investigate that part much.

It was memorable, I suppose.

Tangible things. Pictures, objects. Things pertaining more to the Sphere and the people in it than to the place.

Not beyond tossing something at it then deciding to bugger off, no.

It is good to see your handwriting again.

[Oh, to bring up that picture he saw on the 4th floor or not? Now is probably not the time. Or ever, given the context of it.

...And another small pause because relative friendliness from Veda still takes some getting used to.]

Thanks.

Been holding up okay over the past three weeks?

The usual mess of absurdities.

I'll take that as a 'kind of', then.

You're all right? It's very good to see your writing again.

The rips in the air are on the fourth floor now, too? That doesn't sound good.

All in one piece and none the worse for wear. Good to see you're writing, too.

...No, no it doesn't. You wouldn't mind telling me where else we've been getting rips like that, would you?

Oh, right. Maybe you haven't heard yet. Those tears have been showing up in the Scavengers' Yard for a while now. At least a couple of weeks. People have tried to throw things into them, but it seems whatever goes in doesn't come out on the other side.

...Yeah, that's about what I encountered exactly. Makes me wonder if they turned up at the same time.

Either way, that doesn't sound promising.

Lyle, hey!

The uniforms and explosions are long gone. I guess things have been quiet, but I don't know if that's good or bad.

I don't know if I count as lately but I didn't see anything like that when I was on the fourth floor.

Hey there, short stuff.

Good or bad, the quiet I'll take it while it lasts. It's preferable to the explosions, even if they were 'fake'.

Lately or not, it's helpful to know. You'll have to jog my memory, when were you last there?

It's nice not to have to duck from flying styrofoam rubble, at least.

Back in April. I saw the castle I used to live in, but nothing else. What was strange this time?

It makes for a pleasant change of pace, I'm sure.

I do remember you mentioning that. During my experience there were a few items that seemed like... well, like they belonged more to the Sphere than the setting. It was from my world, that much I knew, but there were traces of you lot there. I'm not really sure what to make of it.

Also, like I told Bell, there was what I can only describe as a rip in the fabric of space. Just a bit unnerving. Didn't give back the vase I'd tossed into it, either.

You're back.
Are your keys with you? I'll be there soon, though.

I miss you.

I am, I do (just stepped in, actually), and I look forward to seeing you.

Missed you too, love.

['Soon' was probably not soon enough, as Stellaris was down at the Housekeeping Petal when she saw Lyle's journal writing. She was out of breath, flushed and disheveled when she rushed to open the front door of their apartment, looking to confirm that the writings were not some kind of cruel jape that the Tree played.]

[When she opened the door Lyle was treading the floor in front of the table, journal in hand. Knowing how much he had to have missed, he had a bit too much nervous energy to just sit down.

The second the click of the door registered he tossed the journal on the table, covered the distance in a few quick, long strides and wrapped his arms around Stellaris. He had to check the urge to squeeze her as tightly as he could since she sounded out of breath as it was.

After a moment he murmured in a tone that was both sheepish and wry.]

Sorry I'm a little late.
