Confession: I miss the days of my early involvement in this fandom. When my peeps would go through every new story almost line by line and tell me exactly what they loved and which things worked best or didn't work at all. *sighs* It's not like I don't treasure the "loved it!"s. It's just not the same. And they don't help me get better. And it's ( Read more... )

Oh, don't get me wrong, I know there is recognition of my work. And no, my joy in writing doesn't depend on that - I will most likely write these two until my crooked hands can't hit the keys anymore, even if I'm the only one reading it by then.

It just used to be different, you know. And the best new story ideas always came from exactly these interactions with others. It just feels like a big chunk of what I liked about this fandom is missing these days. (Which holds true for several areas of it, but this one is the most apparent to me.)

I think I kind of know a little of what you mean. I haven't written a TIVA story in a long while. Somehow I don't feel that I can. And I think, for me, it's somehow involved with how the show is progressing. My muse is miffed if you will, I guess, about the lack of progress.

I know you and Wenn think there has been progress, Sammy, and I will agree but my muse - the bitch is still miffed.

And for everyone who can have intelligent conversations about character and plot and motivation and possibilities there are 20 people who can only gush and another 20 who hate the ones you love and another 20 who have to crush everything cause it gives them a bit of power for a moment.

Sigh...

A big round of hugs to us all.

Just like to point out that your writing is why I am here on this Live Journal with you. It's the only LJ I see everyday. Hell, I don't even check mine but maybe once a month.

Your writing is on such a high level that it's hard to be truly objective about it. I have told you more than once in the past that I think you should be a professional writer, as in paid for your work writer.

Every 4-5 months I get out my big fat notebook of littlesammy stories and reread them. Then I pull out the 3 separate smaller notebooks with the longer stories like The Flavor of the Wind and reread them. I can imagine reading them and enjoying them in 30 years times with my big magnifying glass because even at 91 I'll still be your fan.

I promise I will try to do better as in being more in depth on my reviews. I know what you mean. It drives me crazy when someone posts a review on one of my more serious stories and says "it's cute." CUTE?!?! Trust me, I will never do that to you.

I will blame some of it in reading by phone. Its harder to be in depth with no copy/paste and a phone screen shows you so little at a time that you don't see a whole but rather nuggets. Plus typing just thus post has taken me eons!

For one hand I understand what you're saying - the part where you get new ideas and insights from other people's points of view. In my case, I don't analyze every scene like you do... but it was your episode reviews that brought me here. And more, I created an LJ account only to comment them. So don't ever feel you're writing just for yourself, 'coz we are the proof that your stories and insights captivate us :) Sometimes you just say it all, that's it. And that is why we'll always be lurking... ;)

This. THIS IS WHY I comment like I do. The whole POINT of fandom is the INTERACTION...what did someone like, what did they not, what worked and WHY? I love the discourse. And I miss that when it's absent. (It's why I SO TOTALLY RESENT the "Kudos" button on AO3--it makes for lazy "reviews" and you don't even know if the person MEANT TO HIT that button...or WHY they did, especially since they can't unclick it if it was an accident and...arg.)
