Let's not forget the pollution and the weather climate change. In my childhood, allergies was something rare

I think a lot of doctors are stumpted as to why so many more children have food allergies. And it's not just that more kids have them, more people have have incredibly violent reactions to some foods.

My cousin's husband is deathly allergic to shellfish. He wasn't as a child, and he in fact LIKES it. But as an adult he suddenly developed it. He carries an epi pen with him just in case he is accidentally exposed.

I think some of the reason why more people have allergies is just that there are more people on the planet, so it is more likely people will have allergies. But I think the reason why so many more kids have allergies is because although people your age and mine don't have them as often, our kids DO because of DDT, mercury, and all that fun stuff.

I honestly have no idea. I've known several people with asthma, and one or two with serious food allergies... but... I don't know why they're more common. I don't think we can really blame pollution- because if that was the case, then the elderly would have far more allergies wouldn't they? I mean, I do believe pollution was much worse several decades ago... (I mean the EPA wasn't formed until 1970 ( ... )

I think we're more aware now of the problem. I still can't believe that one girl died after kissing her boyfriend who'd eaten a peanut butter cup, she was that deathly allergic.
I was in elementary school in the 80's and we had to fill out a food allergy form since our class parties would rotate who brought what. I don't honestly remember anyone having any problems. But we could also sing Christmas carols too. It's amazing how much has changed in 20 years.
