Episode Review: 7x05 - Code of Conduct

Oct 21, 2009 23:29

Beware! Tony-centric rambling, ravings, swoonings and squeeings behind the cut, along with 27 poorly cut and coloured caps! tejas, I swear I'm totally re-writing as well. I just got distracted by Tony's nose and hair. Again. ;-)

I think he stayed initially out of that loyalty to Gibbs, but I wonder if like you say, it transferred and is now a little bit split. And, because I thingk about these things far too much, I wonder how split the rest of the team's loyalty would be, if it came down to Gibbs and Tony - not that I think that'll happen anytime soon! I think Tony would be surprised and horrified if anyone chose him over Gibbs, though I think at the moment that McGee might.

Protective!Tony is one of my favourite things ever - I adore him stalking around behind Abby in Bloodbath and how very on-the-ball he is in that episode, and the way Gibbs and him really work together to protect her. I also love in Murder 2.0 - the one with the internet-filmed murder, is that the right episode? I think so - when they've left the office with Gibbs despite the threats to his life, and Tony mutters in kind of resigned frustration that he wishes Gibbs had stayed in the car. And Gibbs is like, "Shut up or I'll shoot you", like he's been harping on about it because he's such ( ... )

He does handle Gibbs well and the fact that he doesn't like Franks makes me like him more (although his dislike of Tony makes me dislike him more than I otherwise would). That is true but I think Gibbs is much less trigger happy than Franks and I can't remember Gibbs killing a suspect in cold blood after the danger had past even if he has been tempted to ( ... )

I was irritated by him at first, mostly due to the dislike of Tony he seemed to show. There hasn't been any real interaction between him and Tony this season so far, except for the fairly LOLsome elevator bump in ... 7x01? but I'm hoping that since Aaliyah he'll have realised a little bit that Tony isn't quite as flighty/jokey as he likes to make out. I think if that comes true, I'll go from liking Vance to loving him, because it'll be an actual representation of Tony fooling someone and then them realising there's a lot more to him. Other than that, I like how professional he is, his dry wit, and his family were too cute to be true ( ... )

I'm slowly warming to him but I still think they are showing too much of him and I miss the days of Tom Morrow as director. I can understand why he makes a lot of his decisions and the fact that our team does need to be reigned in sometimes but the emotional side of me doesn't like the fact that he obviously isn't all that keen on my favourite characters ( ... )

Tom Morrow was very cool! I do agree, a little less exposure would probably make a bit happier and would give us more team, but I'm okay with him having like, one big storyline a year (mostly because I adore his wife and kids), and occasional appearance in MTAC and to reign Gibbs in - but it's never been necessary for it to be a weekly episodic appearance, you know? With Rocky Carroll guesting on NCIS:LA, maybe we'll see slightly less of him. Makes absolute sense for him to be on that show too, I think - the Director should be a little too busy to spend so much time around Team Gibbs, no matter how pretty they are!

Yeah, I totally agree that Tony will break and bend some rules in order to get a case solved, like breaking and entering and working on hunches without warrants, but whereas I think Tony has some lines he would never, ever cross, Gibbs doesn't even know some of those lines exist, if that makes more sense? Gibbs is way more of a liability than Tony, I think - which works for him ( ... )

His wife and kids are very cute. One centric episode a season is fair enough, but anymore than that and I'm going to get bored. One of things that got me starting to hate Jenny was her over exposure and the fact that she got involved in fair too many things that a RL director wouldn't have time for or would be involved very briefly ( ... )

Although you already know I quite liked Jenny - but still think she was deeply flawed in her attitude to personal and professional matters, I totally agree that she was on-screen far too much. I liked seeing her on occasion, when it was pertinent, but often it wasn't and I think that over-exposure contributed to so many people disliking her ( ... )

It is a very fine line between having the director there when it is realistic and just having them there. I think one of the reasons there is over exposure is because they have made the cast member a regular which then requires to be in many more episodes. If they left them as reoccuring characters I don't think we would have this over exposure ( ... )

Exactly! They don't need to have another main character. Recurring works absolutely fine ( ... )

I'm not sure which one he would choose to save first. Look at Requiem. He gets Maddie out of the car first but that's because Gibbs was still conscious. He starts to give Gibbs mouth to mouth first but then quickly moves to Maddie. Is he choosing Gibbs first by giving him mouth to mouth first? If it was save one of the team vs save a number of civilans then I think he would save the civilans first. If it was save one of the team vs save one civilan, it could go either way especially if it was Gibbs or Abby in danager. Plot bunnies are good! *gives them carrots*

I just wish she had finished the WIP of a sequal to Rictus she had going, the first three chapters are terrific. Exactly. If you compare the first three seasons with those after it, it's almost like it's a different show ( ... )

I totally agree with you, I think, that if it was a matter of numbers he'd go for the greater good, but if it was a matter of one close teammate against one innocent civilian, he'd be torn. My fingers are itching with all the angst potential! :-D ( ... )

Now I want to read something like that. *hint, hint*

LOL, maybe in a couple of weeks when I'm totally bored I'll try writing something new. I just need to come up a decent idea or two! I think a problem that a lot of people have is that they are too lazy to use any concrit they recieve. They are only in it for the reviews and so they want to get something out ASAP so they can't be bothered making improvements or checking facts. We also tend to get caught up in our right to have our say and opinions heard and we forget everyone else has that same right and they are not always going to agree with.

We can't have your brain cells dying! :-D

Your hints are totally having an effect, I have formed a semblance of an idea in my head that may turn into plot - though I think that if it ever turns into something it'll take ages! But, I'm working on it! I may keep picking your brains for it, though, with credit! *g*

I totally agree, especially if they are getting a number of good reviews, like on somewhere like ff.net, and the constructive can come across as really, jarringly negative next to pleas of more, more! And yes, it is easy to forget that our opinions aren't always right - I'm totally guilty of it myself and need a good Gibbs slap to snap me out of it!

Have you tried flicking through any prompt comms to see if anything inspires any ideas? I've not been successful in doing that yet, but I always think the idea of prompt table challenges is a really good one!

I'll soon be in negative numbers, I think! ;-P

Good things take time. I'm more than willing to help, especially if it means the possibilty of new fic! :-)

I'll have to have a look at them, although I have found so far that I need more than a one word prompt to get me going. Got any prompts you would like to read? *g*

I know what you mean, one word doesn't always get you very far. Hmm, let me think of something a little more in-depth, and Tony-centric, obviously!

Tony/Abby is your favourite pairing, right? So, let's put them somewhere ... I'd love to see a day in court that also involved Tony, you know, where he's going to be testifying too and it could either be serious, where someone is trying to nobble the jury or threaten witnesses and Tony gets all protective, or maybe it could just be fun and Tony ogles Abby in her outfit and takes her for ice cream when they're done! Sorry, I'm awful at this prompting malarkey!

I've also always thought that the fandom is a little low on hostage fics, if you're looking for a longer plot idea, and I've always wanted more fic about the time surrounding Kate's funeral.

Any of these sparking anything? I also love anything to do with Tony h/c, so Tony on painkillers, Tony with concussion (something that can never be overdone), Tony with flu, or even just Tony limping - makes me happy. :-) (This is not a demand ( ... )

Wow, lots of ideas! Nothing jumps out immediately but I always work best if I let ideas simmer in the back of my head for a couple of weeks. I certainly like the possibilities of a couple of them. *wonders how she can bring Tony h/c into the court room prompt*

As I'm writing this I'm getting an idea for the court room prompt. I would also like to takle the Kate's funneral but all my fics so far have been really emotional angst so I want to try something different this time.
