Panama and Costa Rica won't have big storms, but they do have enough rain to cut people off with areas flooding during the rainy season, but it would have to be multiple rains and ditches (not unrealistic) to cut them off for two days. For Nicaragua it would have to be on the east side for the storms to hit them, I think.
Much as I adore Ecuador, I think Central America is a better bet for tropical storms. While the weather in the mountains is unpredictable (I have never been so close to hypothermia in my life and hope never to be again), I found the rainforest very predictable. Hot, muggy mornings and rain in the afternoon. The tail-end of Tropical Storm Bret(1993) did catch Columbia, so it's possible, but I think unlikely, especially as Ecuador's...well, on the Equator.

My mate was in the Army there and he spent a lot of time in the jungle and avoiding/catching drug runners. Also, it gets the odd tropical storm.

I just correlated http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typhoon against areas that worked for the other items you mention.
