You've already got some really good, solid answers, so I'll just leave two notes:

- It's spelled 'rattan', with two 't's. Someone else has already flagged 'corporal', I see.

- I would, myself, expect skin breakage on the last few strokes, largely because the recipient has never been caned before, and won't have any toughness going in. (And, yes, humiliating, hurts like hell, etc.)

It's been a while since I floated around the kink communities, but there were excellent forums/ sites that did give quite good details, without having to join or create a profile. I'll try to think of some. There's a wikipedia of kink, but its name escapes me :)

I was caned several times at my secondary school in the UK. The usual way was in front of the class. Our teacher used to place a chair in front of the class and call me out. I had to bend over the chair with my bum pointing toward the class and my balck school trousers pulled tight over my buttocks. The shiny area that I sat on was the target for the teacher. He would produce the cane fro his closet and swish it through the air a few times. He would then apply 6 strokes to my backside. Each stroke left an indent in my trousers. My underpants stuck to me as I peeled them off my injured bottom. 6 deep welts were there for a few days.

Hi I was caned on many occasions at school and had to report to HM in shorts and singlet top. He used to ask if we were were wearing anything underneath and the be told to bend over the back of the chair and await six strokes of the cane applied hard. Awaiting outside his office hearing other boys being caned often caused an embarrassing erection which quickly subsided when ones own punishment commenced. Although the pain was considerable the welts were a comparison point in the communal showers. We all aimed to get one of the lady teachers to use their cane, but mostly got sent to the HM. OK, so this time I was to be caned in front of the 1st and 2nd year boys as an example. They were between 11 and 13 and I was 15. I was taken to the school hall and the 150 boys who made up the 1st and 2nd years were herded into the hall and sat facing a low stage which is where the teachers normally sat fo assembly. On tis occassion there was one small table in the centre of the stage. i was brought in to the hall by the deputy principal who was to cane me. By the twelth stroke I was really in agany and as I rose up and pulled my underware and trousers up I was snivelling slightly. I was then taken slowly out of the hall.
