Ideal hiding places, no holds barred

Okay, say you're a kid (about, oh, twelve years old and roughly five feet tall). Where would be some really weird places for you to hide well in and be able to scare someone by randomly appearing out of? This can be anywhere, such as a store or in a house or in a car or in the streets or anywhere. I've been looking all over Google, but no dice for ( Read more... )

My sister and I have hidden
Under dressers and tables - good to grab ankles
In trunks
on the floors of closets..under clothes.
I sat next to a bed with a blanket half tucked over me once
on a roof, - climbned out the window and tucked outta sight.
in the bathtub with the curtan pulled.
thats all i can think of I hope it helps.

When I was that age I used to play hide and seek by lying down on the shelf of a wardrobe, wriggling to the back, and rearranging the folded clothes in front of me. It's also really easy to hide in a ceiling - my dad (who is a terrible practical joker) got us kids to hide in the ceiling to scare our mum. They all have sturdy crossbars (though some ceilings have more than others). And if you hide in a dropped ceiling, you can easily get out again.

My nephew scared his sister almost senseless by hiding in her wardrobe and slooooowly opening the door while she was looking in her mirror. Or behind a curtain of a deep recessed window. Cardboard box. Big suitcase. Big wheely bin.........

What country is this, and what era? Answers will vary (like, 100 years ago, houses didn't have mechanical dishwashers).

In a modern Japanese house, many kitchens have a bult-in storage bin in the kitchen floor, with a trap-door on top. Kitchen cabinets are also good. If there is no electricity or if the kid is handy, the over-stove fan unit could be gutted and made into a perch - with the filter-panel pulled in place they could see out but not be seen.

Any furniture with shelves could be de-shelved to make a hiding place: cabinets, book-cases, closets. A lot of houses also have hollow spaces in the walls. If there is no electricity (or again, if your kid is handy) they could make a lot of hiding spaces in the walls/under the stairs. Large appliances like washers/dryers/dishwashers/ovens?

My kids like to hide behind the curtains or behind the refrigerator, expressly for the purpose of jumping out at people....

*points above*

Like I said, in the southeastern states, such as Georgia. It's in modern times, but there's no electricity in most places because all the power plants went down unless there's a separate generator and it hasn't run out of fuel.

Those are some really ingenious places--especially in the stove over-fan. Thanks!

My brother, at that age, scared my Mom have to death by hiding in a laundry hamper. He never did that again! :-)
