Ideal hiding places, no holds barred

Okay, say you're a kid (about, oh, twelve years old and roughly five feet tall). Where would be some really weird places for you to hide well in and be able to scare someone by randomly appearing out of? This can be anywhere, such as a store or in a house or in a car or in the streets or anywhere. I've been looking all over Google, but no dice for ( Read more... )

I once won a game of hide-and-seek in a tree, after reading in a book that people rarely look up. Ever since, I have wondered about the load tolerances of dropped ceilings.

That's why I mentioned in the ceiling, because they're actually surprising sturdy (or at least, the one I was in was). I've also been in the foundation of a building, which was pretty cool, but you can't really pop out of there; all you can do, really, is talk through the vents.

Thanks for the tree suggestion, though!

In the chimney
Behind and underneath piles of canned food at the grocery store
In a cupboard
In the trunk of a car
Up a tree
On a roof
In a culvert

I can't believe I didn't think of in a culvert. When I was a kid, I always wanted to crawl in one of those, regardless of potential possums/skunks/etc already in residence.

When I was little and visiting my grandparents (out in a fairly rural town), we would go swimming in the culverts all the time. There was this great big pool by two of them, which emptied into a stream and more culverts way, way down at the other end of the stream. (They were big culverts, though - you could stand up in them.)

Around that age, I hid behind a pile of firewood a few times. Lots of spiders though. I don't know if anyone's suggested under a desk or a bed, but those are usually pretty good ones, too.

Depending on stamina hiding in the open at the top of a door frame?

Oh yeah, this. You'd be shocked at how well it works. My little brother used to brace himself in the top of open doorframes and drop onto people.

On top of a wardrobe
in a dumb waiter
in a large trash can / dumpster

Try googling on "Child's body found in" and "lost child was hiding in"
